Julia Roberts has developed many strong friendships with other Hollywood stars. But the Pretty Woman actress admits that she and George Clooney enjoy a very special bond. And Julia recently took time to explain how they became BFFs.
However, the two also share a wicked sense of humor. And they discussed options for George to win a third Sexiest Man award. Get all the details below.
Julia Roberts And George Clooney – Discuss His Sexiest Man Award
Best friends forever! In an industry where competition is the name of the game, George Clooney and Julia Roberts stand out for their selfless friendship. And the two just explained how it originated. But they also took a trip down memory lane.
Clooney famously won People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive award not just once but twice. And if the actor wins for a third time, he would set a record. As a result, his BFF Julia votes for a new version of the award. And Clooney, 61, agreed, noted Yahoo.
“Yes! Third time’s a charm,” said Roberts, 54. But George, who stars with Julia in the new romantic comedy movie, Ticket to Paradise, wants a “little more specific” award. And since Clooney won the Sexiest Man Alive honor in 1997 and 2006, he feels qualified to come up with a twist.
“Sexiest Batman Alive,” suggested George. And Julia added, “Sexiest Man, once a Batman.” However, Clooney topped that with “Sexiest Man, once a Batman, over 60.” And hat tip to Julia for concluding the joke with “who still has all his own teeth.”

George Clooney – Explains How Julia Roberts Became His BFF
But years before they joked about Clooney’s chances for a third Sexiest Man Award, the two became friends. And George recalls how they first met in 2000. Amid planning for filming Ocean’s Eleven, the actor quickly bonded with the Oscar-winning actress.
“This was just easy,” summed up Clooney about how soon they went from co-stars to friends. And Roberts agreed. “That’s how it felt with George,” said Julia of an easy bond. “You just kind of go, ‘All right’ … He’s one of my people now.”
What began on set turned into a friendship forever. And they later starred together in four films after that first Ocean’s Eleven experience. Julia credits the fact that they both value family and friends for much of their bond.
“We have a similar approach to life,” explained Roberts. And as the years passed since that first meeting, the two have shared each other’s milestones. For instance, Julia now shares 17-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, and son Henry, 15, with her husband, cinematographer Danny Moder, 53. And George co-parents 5-year-old twins Ella and Alexander with his wife Amal, 44, a human rights lawyer.
“Our lives expand in these beautiful ways,” reflected Julia. And she takes pride in playing the role of “Aunt Juju” to George’s twins. But Roberts also joked, “We are the same goofy nuts we’ve always been.”
