Apple TV’s documentary, My Mind And Me, gives Selena Gomez fans an unprecedented look at the singer’s heartbreak over Justin Bieber. And it follows the songstress through the past six years. But the focus remains on her struggles about her highly publicized split from Bieber, noted Capital FM.
After a lengthy on-and-off romance, Justin and Selena broke up in 2018. And he stunned followers by tying the knot with his now-wife Hailey Bieber that same year. However, Gomez spent the next two years trying to cope with the aftermath. And she shared glimpses in her Rare album, which dropped in 2020.
But that album’s ballads, such as Lose You To Love Me, in some ways hid Selena’s real battle. However, Gomez has used her documentary to give an intimate look at how her struggles. And she recalled how her split from Justin haunted her as she wrote the ballad.
Selena Gomez ‘Lost’ Herself After Justin Bieber Split
As the songstress penned Lose You to Love Me, she focused on her emotions about Bieber. And Selena recalled texting her ballad contributors. “I text Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter and said, ‘I think I’m ready to just say I’m sad.’ We wrote the song in 45 minutes. The fastest song I’ve ever written,” added Gomez.

But the singer sought to explain what the ballad means to her. And Selena feels that it represent more than her feelings about Justin. “It’s me learning to choose myself, to choose life,” she explained. “But also hoping that people can find grace and peace in that too. The song is about knowing that you completely lost every part of who you are just to rediscover yourself again.”
However, Gomez also struggled with the public aspect of her split from Justin. And she admitted, “Everything was so public. I felt haunted by a past relationship that no one wanted to let go of. Then I just moved past it, and I wasn’t afraid anymore.”
As a result, Selena now views her split from Justin in a positive way. And she explained, “I feel like I had to go through the worst possible heartbreak ever and then just forgetting everything at the drop of the hand. It was really confusing. But I just think that needed to happen and ultimately it was the best thing that ever happened to me.”
