K-Pop Girl Group ILLIT Collecting Major Wins With Debut

None of them has so far managed to do what ILLIT has done, and that is to arrive on the block with a big bang.

The five-member group officially released their debut effort on March 25 through HYBE/BELIFT LAB.

Per the report released by South Korean streaming chart Hanteo, SUPER REAL ME sold a staggering total of 380,056 copies in the first week of its release (March 25 to 31).

The numbers clearly outpaced NewJeans’ self-titled debut EP 311,271 by several thousands, enough to steal the crown and become the rookie girl group to have the highest sales of a debut album to date.

Apart from holding highest first-week sales of a debut album by a girl group in Hanteo history, they also managed to secure the fifth spot for the highest first-week sales of any debut album.

But they’re not only breaking records locally. No, the group is ready, set, go for global dominance, with the K-pop girl group’s title track, “Magnetic,” entering Spotify’s Daily Top Songs Global chart on its very first day of release, making this a first for any K-pop girl group.

K-pop Girl Group ILLIT Misses Debuting On Billboard Hot 100 For This Reason

Add the aforementioned milestones to obtaining the biggest streaming day for any K-pop group in history, with the song “Magnetic” debuting on the Chinese music streaming service QQ Music.

In fact, the ultra-catchy song was so successful that experts predicted it would notch a spot – 99 – on Billboard for this week’s Hot 100.

Unfortunately, they missed it by three spots, managing to notch the 102 spot on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100.

If they had managed the feat, they would have been the first k-pop group in history to achieve it. However, they were kept from the glory by new releases from UK/US artists.

The 5-member group was assembled from the competition show R U Next?, with Yunah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, and Iroha as its members.
