Kanye West Can’t Keep Up With The Kardashians: Cancel Culture To Blame?

Kanye West Kanye West used “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” (KUWTK) to transform his image as a volatile rapper. For instance, the Kardashian family’s reality TV show highlighted Kanye’s love for Kim Kardashian. And fans cheered for West as he became engaged and wed. Add in fatherhood, and the rapper became known for his sweet affection for his children.

But then Kim’s decision to file for divorce from Ye changed everything.  And in recent months, West has shocked social media with hostile posts slamming his estranged wife, her boyfriend “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) star Pete Davidson, and those in Kim’s inner circle. As a result, Kanye increasingly finds himself on the outside looking in at the clan that once viewed him as a beloved family member. But should the cancel culture phenomenon shoulder some blame for that situation?

How Did Kanye West Go From Happy KUWTK Star To Angry Outsider?

KUWTK devoted numerous episodes to showing the softer side of Kanye West. For example, co-parenting their four kids (Psalm, Saint, Chicago, North) with Kim Kardashian helped Ye reveal his loving, caring nature for the children and his wife. But what a difference a divorce made!

In the months that have followed Kim filing for divorce, Kanye has become increasingly hostile in his social media attacks. And recently, those slams have backfired. For instance, Instagram penalized West by suspending his ability to post. But the Grammy Awards decision to boot Kanye from the performance line-up may represent the biggest reversal of his fate yet.

One reason cited for yanking Ye from the Grammy line-up relates to his use of a racial slur for “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah. Kanye attacked Noah for discussing the rapper’s social media attacks on Kim and Pete. “What we’re seeing here is one of the most powerful, one of the richest women in the world unable to get her ex to stop texting her, to stop chasing after her, to stop harassing her,” pointed out Trevor, per USA Today

Does Kanye – West Need Counseling Or Cancelling?!

As a result, some question if the prevailing cancel culture atmosphere has hurt West. For instance, Trevor Noah reacted strongly to Ye getting dropped from the Grammy performance lineup. Ironically, Trevor will serve as host at the ceremony. But Noah still spoke out about Kanye. Turning to Twitter to share his views, the “Daily Show” host summed up his reaction simply.

“I said counsel Kanye, not cancel Kanye,” tweeted Trevor. But in contrast to that short statement, Noah got overwhelmed with nearly 2,000 responses. For instance, one follower shared, “He cancelled himself, Trevor.” And another chimed in, “Counsel yes, but punishment for dangerous behavior isn’t being “canceled”. It’s accountability.”
