Kris Jenner Admits Ex Caitlyn Jenner’s Transition Was A “Shock” To The Family

Kris Jenner is finally opening up about how the family felt when they found out that husband/father Bruce Jenner — now Caitlyn Jenner — was undergoing transition at the time. She called it “scary” for the family because they weren’t prepared and knew “nothing about it”.

Kris Jenner Opens Up About How the Family Reacted Emotionally to Caitlyn Jenner’s Transition, During Wednesday’s interview special, Kris Jenner chatted about how the family received Caitlyn’s transition news.

As expected, it was a scary time for them that continues to heal with time. “We’re fine. Yeah, we’re friends,” Kris, 66, said of ex Caitlyn, with whom she was married to for 22 years. “And I see her when she’s at a family thing so it’s, you know, settled down a lot.”

Recalling her family’s reaction to Caitlyn’s transition, Kris added, “I think it was a big shock. It’s a scary thing to go through because you know nothing about it. It’s a subject I never thought that I would ever have to directly deal with [or] confront [or] be understanding about. Something that I didn’t you know, understand.”

Kris shares daughters Kendall Jenner, 26, and Kylie Jenner, 24, with Caitlyn, 72. The pair announced their separation in October 2013. Two years later, Caitlyn publicly came out as transgender. The former couple then went through a period of estrangement at the time Caitlyn’s memoir hit the shelves in 2017.

In “The Secrets of my Life”, Caitlyn claimed Kris knew more about her gender identity crisis than she was letting on. This led to a rift, which Kris and her daughters publicly talked about in the past. However, they’ve fixed the bond in recent years and Caitlyn has even gotten to be a part of some of the family’s occasions.

Kris Jenner – On Navigating Divorce And Caitlyn’s Transition At The Same Time

Kris also told Robin Roberts during the Wednesday interview about how she navigated Caitlyn’s transition amid their split.

“None of us had been through anything like that before in a million years,” Kris said. “And we didn’t know how to process that — and it was a process, it was a shock, and then it was a reality, and it was something that we had to absorb and try to wrap our heads around and learn about.”

She continued, “What I thought was interesting about that was, I’m sure many people who are fans of our show weren’t expecting it either and were as confused at times and sad at times, happy at times, because there’s so many different ways of looking at it.”
