Katy Perry Discussed Her ‘Really Hurtful’ Marriage To Russell Brand
Russell Brand currently faces allegations of sexual abuse. But years ago, Katy Perry offered hints about her ex-husband’s dark secrets.
And her 2013 interview with Vogue has resurfaced in the wake of Brand’s current sexual abuse claims, noted Page Six.
Katy described Russell as “controlling.” And she also referred to their marriage as “really hurtful.” But the singer, 38, shared that she truly felt “in love” with Brand, 48, when they tied the knot in India on Oct. 23, 2010.

However, 14 months later, the two divorced. And Katy shared that she blamed herself when Brand sent her a breakup text on New Year’s Eve. But then she discovered “the real truth.”

And Perry revealed that during their short-lived marriage, Brand changed his views on what he wanted in his wife. “At first when I met him he wanted an equal,” she recalled. “And I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal. But then they get that equal and they’re like, ‘I can’t handle the equalness.’”
Because Katy took on the role of “boss on tour,” her then-husband disliked that situation. “He didn’t like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful,” admitted the singer. “And it was very controlling, which was upsetting. I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending.”

However, when Perry discovered what she called the “real truth” about her ex-husband, she stopped blaming herself. “But then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day. I let go,” she said. “And I was like, ‘This isn’t because of me; this is beyond me.’ So I have moved on from that.”

And though Katy didn’t reveal the “real truth,” fans think that she referred to the sexual abuse claims that Brand now faces. A total of four women have accused Brand of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse. The alleged incidents reportedly occurred between 2006 to 2013.
For instance, one anonymous accuser claimed that Brand raped her in his home in Los Angeles in 2012. And she then went to a rape health center for help the following day. As a result, the unnamed accuser shared that she can provide medical records to support her claims.
