Woman’s World Flops

Katy Perry’s comeback didn’t happen as she anticipated. She returned to pop music for the first time in five years. Earlier this year, she shocked fans when she announced her exit from American Idol. Katy wanted to focus on her music career.

However, some fans think she should return to the recording studio and start over again. Her comeback single “Woman’s World” features eye-raising lyrics and a ridiculous music video that panders to the male gaze. She also got pandered for working with producer Dr. Luke, who was accused of sexual assault by Kesha.

Critics are calling the song the worst in history. The song already departed the Global Spotify chart on its second day. Not 1% of the streaming platform’s users listened to this song.

But that still didn’t stop it from going #1 worldwide on iTunes. It went to the top of 23 countries including Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Norway, and Peru, according to That Grape Juice.

What helped “Woman’s World”go to the top of the charts in those countries is streaming and radio airplay. iTunes will help keep the song at the top for its first week of performance. Meanwhile, the song debuted in the lower quarter (75-100) of the Billboard Hot 100.

Katy Perry Backtracks on Meaning Behind Song

Meanwhile, Katy Perry is having a pop music emergency. She released two other tracks from her new album, 143, which fans say are better than “Woman’s World.” She also called the music video satire, but fans don’t believe her. They think Katy has backpedaled amid the backlash.

Katy took to Instagram to explain the meaning behind the music video. The singer was on the set surrounded by backup dancers. She wears a rhinestone patriotic cut-out swimsuit and a red handkerchief on her head.

“It’s very slapstick and very on the nose,” Katy Perry explains. “With this set, it’s like, ‘Ooh, we’re not about the male gaze but we really are about the male gaze.”
