Official Family Statement
A representative of the family released the following statement:
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years.” The statement went on to note that Brandon died peacefully, surrounded by family. In addition, the family is asking for everyone’s thoughts and prayers and to respect their privacy, “… during this very difficult time.”
This past Wednesday, August 6, Clarkson announced postponement plans for her Las Vegas shows due to a family emergency. Posting on Instagram, she postponed the remainder of the Vegas August Studio Session dates. She noted in her IG caption, “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father [ex-husband Brandon Blackstock] has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.”
She added, “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding.”
“Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions – The Las Vegas Residency” kicked off on July 4 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. There were supposed to be 18 performances scheduled throughout the year, until November 15.

Clarkson & Blackstock’s Marriage
The twosome’s divorce was highly publicized and officially settled in 2022, with Clarkson receiving primary physical custody of River and Remington – their two kids. The couple said their “I do’s” in 2013, and met via Blackstock’s dad, Narvel Blackstock, the owner of a music management company; the very company that represented Clarkson at the start in 2007.
Blackstock was Clarkson’s manager from 2017 until they went their separate ways in 2020. Reba McEntire was married to his father from 1989 to 2015.
On behalf of everyone here, we extend our condolences to Brandon Blackstock’s two children, the rest of his family, as well as Kelly Clarkson, Blackstock’s friends, peers, and loved ones.
