Kevin Costner Explains What His Upcoming Docuseries Will Focus On

Kevin Costner Explains What His Upcoming Docuseries Will Focus OnYou might know Kevin Costner as John Dutton in the hugely popular Paramount series ‘Yellowstone,’ but you might not know that Costner is a big fan of the natural environment.

We gleaned this passion when he was working on his project, ‘Horizon,’ which saw him reveal that he treated the movie’s landscapes as importantly as he did the plot. Now?

We’re going to be learning more about this deep and natural love that he has for open spaces in a new docuseries.

Kevin Costner On the Beauty of Nature

Costner will dive deep into his love for the great outdoors, for nature and for preserving wide open spaces in his upcoming Fox Nation docuseries, titled Yellowstone to Yosemite.’

In the documentary, Costner attempts to trace back Roosevelt and Muir’s historic 1903 journey through Yosemite, as well as uncover Native American heritage.

“Part of what I wanted to get across in the documentary was that at that time you could declare that something was protected, like Yellowstone, but we didn’t have in place anything that was designed to protect it,” Costner explained in a recent chat with Garden & Gun.

“Those early parks were still being overrun because they could not be watched carefully, and the nature of man is to take what he can, even if there’s a fence or a sign.”

“Yosemite is worthy of talking about because at the time these places were not being protected. It was a time where America wasn’t thinking environmentally. We were thinking more and more and more of everything. America was like the Garden of Eden,” Costner added in the interview.

Kevin Costner On the Need For Conservation

As someone who appreciates the beauty of nature, he’s truly concerned about the damages not taking decisive actions may bring down the line.

“What’s disturbing is there are probably more environmentally aware people now than ever on the planet, yet we’re still on the brink with everything,” he said. “We never thought an ocean could be exhausted, but they’re not fishing for salmon off the coast of California for the first time in 15,000 years. I mean, what’s going on? We’re fighting each other, debating things that are right in front of our eyes.”

He warmly continued, “I mean, what’s going on? We’re fighting each other, debating things that are right in front of our eyes. These are the kind of things we should be rallying around. Countries have so much divisiveness. Our Earth is the common denominator, and we keep missing the point that we’re all tied together.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Costner revealed that he takes great pride in introducing the joys of the outdoors to his children.
