Kevin Costner Source Says Estranged Wife Can Afford To Move, But Doesn’t Want To

By now, I doubt you would have missed the news that Kevin Costner and wife Christine Baumgartner are divorcing, certainly not with the many stories that’s coming out through the cracks since the news of their divorce first made headlines.

Shortly after news of the divorce surfaced, Costner revealed his “shock” at the news, though he did admit that he wasn’t particularly surprised.

Okay, they’re divorcing – Costner appears cool with that. What he isn’t cool with is that his estranged wife is refusing to leave his $145 million property after filing for divorce, even though she agreed in their prenup that she would vacate within 30 days if she did push the divorce button.

In fact, he is so not cool with it, he filed to have her leave his house by July 13, but not before trying his best to find a suitable apartment for her. Here’s what a close source has to say about the situation.

Before Costner and Baumgartner tied the knot nearly two decades ago, Baumgartner filed a prenup that prevented her from claiming much of Costner’s wealth for her own. However, the prenup did state that she was entitled to $1.4 million – a sum Costner claimed has been paid in full.

In their June 30 memorandum, Costner’s attorneys named several local real estate listings as evidence that there are nearby homes that are affordable to the former handbag designer.

“Christine can afford to move,” the source said. “She has at her disposal almost $1,500,000 in cash to find alternative housing. Multiple 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom lovely homes are presently available, located in close proximity to Kevin’s separate property residence… Kevin made multiple offers to assist her in relocating.”

Another Costner source, speaking to PEOPLE, said, “This is all about Christine. Kevin has gone above and beyond in providing Christine the necessary means to find a suitable place for her to move.”
