Kevin Costner Upset About Reception Fans Gave His Passion Project ‘Horizon: An American Saga’

After dunking millions of dollars into what he has termed his decades-long passion project of making a great story set in the wild west, you can at least forgive Kevin Costner for being a bit upset that the audience reception was not what he wanted it to be.

In fact, the second part of the saga was pulled from a theatrical release, much to the chagrin of the ‘Yellowstone’ star.

Kevin Costner – Believes In ‘Horizon: An American Saga’s’ Power To Thrill Audiences For Many Years To Come

Kevin Costner is not about to sulk because of the short-term failure of his latest project to hit it big in the box office.

The first part of ‘Horizon: An American Saga’ premiered on the heels of critics branding it one of the worst movies in a long time after viewing it at the Cannes festival, where, if I might add, it received a 10-minute standing ovation from the audience.

Since it hit theaters in late June, it has failed to bring in even a moderately successful box office.
Per the press release, there will be four installments in the movie. The second movie is expected to premiere soon, and has already snagged a showing at the upcoming Venice Film Festival.

At this point, anyone would be forgiven for thinking that Kevin Costner, who spent $38 million of his own money to develop the first movie, will be panicking over the unfortunate turn of events.

However, he remains as chill as cucumber and convinced that time will vindicate him, or at least his movie. His proof?

His Oscar-winning directorial debut, ‘Field of Dreams,’ was similarly dismissed, but he’s convinced it’s making a comeback. “It’s stood the time of decades, now generations — and that’s how I try to make movies. That’s what I see for Horizon,” he said.

“I’ve faced life with people being dismissive of me,” he noted, adding, “But they can’t be dismissive of Horizon, because now it’s out of their hands. And they might point to the finish line — well, this is what it did at the box office — but I know that this movie is going to play for the next 50 years.”

Regardless of its meagre performance at the box office – it managed to bring in $32 million globally on a budget of $100 million – Costner is convinced that time will turn it into a winner.

“There’s a moment in time where you want [your children] to see this movie,” he further shared, adding: “To understand that this is what their [ancestors] went through. It’s not just a western, it’s a history of migration and what they had to do to survive. And I’m really proud of it.”
