Kevin Costner Wants To Bring Viewers 'Face To Face' With Their Wild PastKevin Costner has held a lifelong passion for exploring America’s wild west story and while ‘Horizon’ may not have been all that, he’s promising that his latest project will slap. Maybe not literally, but “shock” and “captivate” are words that have been used to describe it.

Kevin Costner’s Eight-part Series Will Explore the Price That America Paid For Westward Expansion

“What do we see when we think of the West?” is the question ‘Yellowstone’ alum Kevin Costner wants us to ask so that his docuseries can answer.

At 70, the Oscar winning actor and director is still as bent as ever towards his goal of exploring the history of the American west, and he gets to do this again through a eight-part docuseries, titled ‘Kevin Costner’s The West.’

In addition to being the executive producer, Costner also appears in front of the cameras as the host of the new show.

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, who wants to watch some boring history? But Costner doesn’t just want this history lesson to educate, he wants it to thrill, because, believe it or not, the battle for the wild west was a bloodthirsty one that’s sure to have you gripping your seats.

And the icing on the cake? It will not only end with showing us what happened, but lead us on to understand how it continues to determine and impact the future of America.

Premiering on May 26, Costner released a first-look trailer for the HISTORY channel series.

“The West is a place where anything is possible,” Esteemed biographer and historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, co-executive producer of the series, says in the thriller. “It is the essence of the American dream.”

Historian Ned Blackhawk adds, “The American West conjures wonder, possibility, opportunity.”
The trailer is able to show us that the lens they’ve taken to tell the story leaves space for hope, ambition, and of course, countless harsh battles.

“Many people have to pay the price of ambition and westward expansion,” American history expert Ed O’Donnell supplies. “Everyone is willing to fight — and die — for it.”

Author and activist Yohuru Williams more or less agrees with O’Donnell, saying, “American forces have a sense of superiority. The Native Americans are going to prove them deadly wrong.”

The press release promises an exploration that will dive deep into the clashing themes that played a role in the America’s westward expansion.

On the one hand, there’s law, beauty, hope, and on the other we see lawlessness, violence and despair. One thing’s for sure, this history lesson will teach us how powers rose, shifted, and fell.
