Kevin Spacey Will Appear ‘Voluntarily’ In U.K. Court For Sexual Assault Charges

Kevin Spacey has been charged with four counts of sexual assault against three men in the United Kingdom, the Crown Protection Service announced Thursday, May 26. Following allegations of sexual assault, Kevin Spacey has decided to appear in the United Kingdom “voluntarily” in order to face the four new sexual assault charges that were brought against him last week.

Speaking through a representative on Good Morning America on Tuesday, and making reference to the charges of the incident that took place 17 years back, Kevin, 62, said, “I very much appreciate the Crown Prosecution Service’s statement in which they carefully reminded the media and the public that I am entitled to a fair trial, and innocent until proven otherwise, While I am disappointed with their decision to move forward, I will voluntarily appear in the U.K. as soon as can be arranged and defend myself against these charges, which I am confident will prove my innocence.”

The allegations had an immediate impact on Kevin Spacey’s career that continues to this day. Netflix’s House of Cards fired Spacey from the show, though it continued for one final season with Robin Wright taking on the lead. His then-upcoming movie, All the Money in the World, from director Ridley Scott, saw all of Kevin’s scenes reshot with actor Christopher Plummer taking over Kevin’s role.

Kevin Spacey — What Kevin Spacey Is Charged For

Amid several other allegations over the last five years — which he has repeatedly denied — against the former House of Cards star and Oscar-winning American Beauty actor, the Crown Prosecution Service Special Crimes Division announced on May 26 that Kevin would be charged with forcing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent in addition to charges relating to alleged assaults against men in the U.K. Two of the alleged incidents took place in March 2005 in London against one man, with a third assault allegedly taking place in August 2008. The fourth reportedly involved a third man in Gloucestershire in April 2013.

“The authority to charge follows a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation,” CPS Special Crimes Division head Rosemary Ainslie announced Thursday in a statement. “The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Mr. Spacey are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.”

Kevin Spacey — The First Time Kevin Was Accused Of Sexual Harassment

Kevin was first accused of sexual harassment by actor Anthony Rapp in October 2017 when he was 14 and Kevin was 26. Kevin apologized to Rapp publicly, but maintained his innocence, stating that he didn’t recall the alleged encounter… A wave of other allegations followed, leading to Kevin being fired from his starring role in Netflix’s House of Cards and replaced by Christopher Plummer in Ridley Scott’s film All the Money in the World, among other consequences.

In September 2020, Rapp initiated a sexual assault lawsuit against Kevin that is still ongoing. He was at first joined by another accuser, but that person was dismissed from the case last year after refusing to disclose their identity.

Another anonymous accuser, a massage therapist who sued Kevin for sexual assault, died under unknown circumstances in 2019, and a lawyer for his estate subsequently dropped the lawsuit.

Last year, Louis Nero, a producer of an upcoming Spacey-starring movie The Man Who Drew God, told EW he wasn’t fazed by the repeated allegations against the performer.
