As a result, the news that someone priced Kim’s and Kanye’s divorce documents sparked rumors West arranged the setup, reported Radar. But those divorce papers got listed by an unnamed person rather than the rapper. And the mystery does not end there.

Priced at $427,246.20, the divorce filing ended up on OpenSea. And a user going under the handle of LettersOfTheSea created the specifics. “When the [divorce] case is finalized, the buyer will receive an .fbx version of the piece,” stated the user. As a result, the purchaser “may use it with an avatar in the metaverse or… display it on their property in the metaverse,” according to LettersOfTheSea.

Kim Kardashian, Kanye West – Divorce Papers Turned Into NFT: Why?

However, the mystery lies in who turned those divorce papers into a non-fungible token, known as an NFT. That term applies to a unique item. For instance, divorce papers representing a specific celebrity couple’s breakup qualify as singular. Trading Kim’s and Kanye’s divorce papers for Angelina Jolie’s and Brad Pitt’s split documents, for example, would probably not qualify as an equally valued exchange.  

But behind the terminology, a mystery remains. And some wonder if Kanye made the decision to turn Kardashian’s divorce decision into an NFT. Because of more details in the listing, those who know West suspect the rapper.

For instance, the description reads, “When lovers are consumed by the hot flame of passion their love turns to ashes. The motif ‘Purification by Fire’ is a depiction of absence.” And the description continues to explore more than a lack of love. “But also the absence of interaction, communication and joy of life. With their emotional posture along with a feeling of guilt that seems to burden them, the couple at the same time has a strong presence.”

Because Kanye used fire in a recent listening event for his album, that description points to West as the unknown user. However, someone linked to West might have stepped up and made the actual listing. That possibility seems more likely because West reportedly does not favor NFTs.
