In an already deleted Instagram post, the company of Balenciaga made posts featuring children holding teddy bears while dressed in BDSM bondage apparel. The uploads brought backlash to the company as their holiday campaign was said to be promoting child abuse.
Since the upload got criticized by different critics, the images were brought down including the one with a court document from the Supreme Court ruling United States v. Williams in the background that declared child pornography illegal, Balenciaga thought it wise to pull the images down but the deed has been done.
Kim Kardashian has been in close contact and relationship with the Balenciaga company, she has even walked the runway for the company a couple of times and also sported their designer clothes.
Since the issue of Balenciaga and the child pornography pictures came up, Kim Kardashian was expected to throw in her two cents on what she thinks of the situation.
Kim Kardashian — Kim Kardashian’s Response To The Balenciaga Issue
On Nov. 27, Kim finally deemed it right to discuss her thoughts on the issue and share her stance with the Balenciaga brand. In her Instagram story, Kim addressed why it took her this long to respond.
“I have been quiet for the past few days, not because I haven’t been disgusted by the recent Balenciaga campaigns, but because I wanted an opportunity to speak to their team to understand for myself how this could have happened.”
Continuing, Kim said, “As a mother of four, I have been shaken by the disturbing images. The safety of children must be held with the highest regard and any attempts to normalize child abuse should have no place in our society – period. I appreciate Balenciaga’s removal of the campaign and apology. In speaking with them, I believe they understand the seriousness of the issue and will take the necessary measures for this to never happen again.”
Not long after her post on not being in support of child pornography, Kim released another post on her page which clearly states that she’ll keep her relationship with the Balenciaga company.
“As for my future with Balenciaga, I am re-evaluating my relationship with the brand, basing it off their willingness to accept accountability for something that should have never happened to begin with — and the actions I am expecting to see them take to protect children.”
Kim Kardashian — Balenciaga Takes Responsibility For Their Actions
As mentioned earlier, after facing backlash from several individuals concerning the campaign method of promoting child pornography, the company cleared its page of every image relating to the child bondage pictures.
On Monday, Nov. 28, Balenciaga released a lengthy statement explaining how the pictures got to its site and how it would take responsibility for its irresponsibility.
The post reads, “We could like to address the controversies surrounding our recent ad campaigns. We strongly condemn child abuse; it was never our intent to include it in our narrative. The two separate ad campaigns in question reflect a series of grievous errors for which Balenciaga takes responsibility.”
Speaking about the teddy bear campaign it wrote, “This was a wrong choice by Balenciaga, combined with our failure in assessing and validating images. The responsibility for this lies with Balenciaga alone.”
“All the items included in this shooting were provided by third parties that confirmed in writing that these props were fake office documents. They turned out to be [real] papers most likely coming from the filming of a television drama. The inclusion of these unapproved documents was the result of reckless negligence for which Balenciaga has filed a complaint. We take full accountability for our lack of oversight and control of the documents in the background and we could have done things differently.”
