In August 20, 1989, Lyle and Erik Menéndez did a thing that changed their lives forever. They walked into their family home in Beverly Hills California and killed their parents, Jose and Kitty Menéndez, as they watched television. At the time, they were only 18 and 21.
However, justice took several years to catch up with them, with their sentencing coming in 1996. Several years later, there’s a movement to free the brothers. Could Kim Kardashian be their biggest ally?
How Ryan Murphy’s ‘Monsters’ Brought Lyle and Erik Menéndez’s Story Back To the Limelight
Even though several documentaries have been done around the Menéndez brother’ crimes, interest on the peculiar case and its trials are yet to entirely wane.
As a result of this, Ryan Murphy has recreated the brothers’ stories in season 2 of his Netflix series, ‘Monsters.’ It is currently topping Netflix’s viewing charts, even though it was received in poor taste by the brothers, who accused the show of blatant “character assassinations.”
To fix this, Netflix has also offered the brothers a chance to come forward with several parts of their story that’s still untold in an upcoming documentary, titled, ‘The Menéndez Brothers.’ The documentary will feature interviews from the brothers.
Kim Kardashian – Reportedly Visited Lyle And Erik In Prison
Kim Kardashian has taken a shine to unusual cases in the past, so it probably won’t be a surprise to fans to know that she has been to see the brothers.
Per TMZ, the brothers were among inmates who listened to the reality TV star speak about prison reform at San Diego County’s Richard J Donovan Correctional Facility.
Both brothers have also been involved in Greenspace, a project which encourages inmates to improve the appearance of prison yards to assist in their rehabilitation.
Reports suggest Kim made the trip to Donovan Correctional Facility in California with her sister Khloé, her mother Kris, and the actor who plays Erik in the Netflix show, Cooper Koch.
After spending decades behind bars, the brothers are currently appealing their sentence and are “cautiously optimistic” they would emerge victorious.
