Even though both sisters were at one time estranged from each other, their relationship apparently improved during the last few years of Karen’s life. Here’s what killed Houghton.
Karen Houghton Died Due To Heart Issues
First responders were called to Houghton’s home on March 18, but after administering medical aid and lifesaving measures and she couldn’t be revived, she was declared dead at her San Marcos, Calif. Home.
Per a death certificate obtained by TMZ, the reality television star‘s sister died due to her heart issues, with her cause of death listed as cardiac arrest and sudden cardiac arrhythmia.
Type 2 diabetes was listed as a secondary, underlying cause. The certificate also revealed that Karen, who was a former flight attendant, once battled with bipolar disorder.
Following her death at the age of 65, the youngest daughter of Mary Jo “M. J.” Shannon and Robert Houghton was cremated.
Kris Jenner reacted to her sister’s death by sharing a sweet tribute and praising her as the “sweetest and kindest” person.
“Karen was beautiful inside and out,” the 68-year-old wrote on X March 19. “She was the sweetest, kindest, the most sensitive and vulnerable and so so funny. She always felt grateful and thankful for her life and treasured her family and friends and especially her beautiful daughter.”
Karen’s daughter Natalie Zettel – her only child with ex-husband Mark Zettel – also shared moving words following her mother’s passing, (Karen was married to Zettel from 1996 to 2002).
Due to Karen and Kris having a little bit of a spat at some point, Karen was rarely seen with her famous nieces.
Natalie, 26, also wrote on Instagram March 20, “You were my best friend, my everything. The best mother a daughter could ever ask for and I’m so grateful to have had a mother like you.”
