Jenna Ortega recently opened up about her excitement for the upcoming second season of Wednesday and the highly anticipated addition of Lady Gaga to the cast.
Speaking at the SXSW premiere of her latest film, Death of a Unicorn, the actress couldn’t contain her admiration for the pop icon, whose role in the Netflix hit remains a closely guarded secret.
Jenna Ortega on Working with Lady Gaga
“It’s Gaga — just her presence alone, her face alone. She’s not only incredibly beautiful but incredibly talented, so I feel like she could stand in the corner and play a tree and she’d add something to a scene,” Ortega shared with reporters in Austin, Texas.
Despite the buzz surrounding Gaga’s involvement in Wednesday, Ortega admitted she hadn’t yet listened to the singer’s newly released album, Mayhem.
However, she made it clear that she was eager to dive into it. “I’m so unbelievably excited. I’ve been a fan of hers for such a long time, so I think maybe [I will listen] on the flight out of here.”
Death of a Unicorn: A Dark Comedy with a Unique Premise
Before she steps back into the shoes of Wednesday Addams, Ortega is taking center stage in Death of a Unicorn, an A24 dark comedy that pairs her with Paul Rudd.
The film follows a father-daughter duo who accidentally hit a unicorn with their car, setting off a bizarre chain of events at a wilderness retreat run by a wealthy pharmaceutical mogul.
Also starring Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, and Richard E. Grant, the film is written and directed by Alex Scharfman.
On the red carpet, Ortega had a lighthearted pitch for why audiences should check out the film: “There’s unicorns in the title — if you don’t want to watch it, it’s kind of lame. Just do it; what else do you have going on?”
Rudd, who attended the premiere alongside Ortega, also weighed in on what drew him to the project. “Scharfman has a skill for writing vivid characters that are all messed up in their own way, a very funny way; they’re all verbal and bright and morally questionable and I was tickled throughout.”
Star-Studded Premiere and Fashion Highlights
He also had nothing but praise for his co-star, calling Ortega “just so talented and she’s also the coolest person.
She’s so young, and yet — I can’t stand it when people say, ‘Oh, it’s an old soul.’ I’m like come on really, do you believe in angels too? Yet that being said, she’s an old soul,” he added with a laugh.
Fashion also took center stage at the event, with Ortega opting for a plaid brown blazer and trousers, paired with a cranberry-colored button-up shirt and tie.
Rudd, meanwhile, sported a sleek light gray suit, complemented by a crisp white shirt and polished dark shoes.
With Death of a Unicorn hitting theaters on March 28 and Wednesday season two in the works, Ortega is set for a blockbuster year. Fans eagerly await both projects, especially the mystery surrounding Gaga’s role in the eerie world of Nevermore Academy.
