Lea Michele Said She Had ‘Healing’ Talks With Her ‘Glee’ Co-Stars

Back in 2020, there was a controversy surrounding Lea Michele’s attitude towards her fellow “Glee” co-stars while they were onset filming the movie series. Actress Samantha Marie Ware specifically pointed out in 2020 that Lea made her life “hell” while they were filming.

The whole controversy boiled down to Lea being outright disrespectful to them and she also behaved like a bully. That same 2020, Lea issued a public apology to her “Glee” co-stars in the form of a lengthy statement.

Her statement read, “One of the most important lessons of the last few weeks is that we need to take the time to listen and learn about other people’s perspectives and any role we have played or anything we can do to help address the injustices that they face.”

Continuing she noted that she didn’t recall her actions onset during the filming of “Glee” which ran from 2009 through 2015, however, she apologized. “While I don’t remember ever making this specific statement and I have never judged others by their background or color of their skin, that’s not really the point. What matters is that I clearly acted in ways which hurt other people,” said Lea.

“Whether it was my privileged position and perspective that caused me to be perceived as insensitive or inappropriate at times or whether it was just my immaturity and me just being unnecessarily difficult, I apologize for my behavior and for any pain which I have caused. We all can grow and change and I have definitely used these past several months to reflect on my own shortcomings.”

Lea Michele — Lea Reached Out To Her Former Co-Stars

In a recent interview with “Magazine” the star of “Funny Girl,” shared that after taking her time to reflect on her life and actions over the years, she decided to reach out to her former co-stars to ensure that everything that happened between them was all water under the bridge.

“I think these past two years have been so important for everybody to just sit back and reflect, I did a lot of personal reach-outs. But the most important thing was for everybody to just take a step back.”

The 36-year-old actress also shared with the outlet how she has been coping since her previous actions were made public. Lea said, “At the end of the day, what matters the most is how you make people feel. And you have to put aside your feelings.”

She went on to add, “The conversations that I’ve had behind the scenes with some people were incredibly healing and very eye-opening for me. I’ve been doing this for a really long time and I’m not going to ever blame anything on the things that I’ve been through in my life, but you also can’t ignore those experiences or deny them. They are a part of the patchwork of my life.”

Speaking of her “Glee” ol’ days, Lea said, “I think about what the Glee days were like, just working so hard and having such pressure on my shoulders to keep that show afloat, and navigating through that whole experience at such a young age while also dealing with a really intense life trauma that happened at the same time.”

“This is such a different experience. I’m finding so much joy in the connections I’m having with the people around me. That’s what’s giving me energy.”

Lea Michele acknowledged in her interview that taking up the lead role of Fanny Brice in “Funny Girl” was an opportunity for her to make people see her in a different light. “When I got the call that I was going to play Fanny Brice, I said, ‘Okay, this could be really big for my career, but it’s also helpful to have this opportunity to introduce people to who I am now.'”

She recalled telling herself to take her role in the film as serious as her leadership life outstage. “What I told myself stepping into Funny Girl was, ‘If I can’t take my role as a leader offstage as important as my role as a leader onstage, then I shouldn’t do this show,’ because that was always a struggle for me.”

She also said, “So to have this opportunity now at 36 years old as a wife and a mother — to step into this job that comes with so much pressure and a huge amount of responsibility — was a very, very big achievement for me.”
