Macaulay Culkin Opens Up About His Emotional Response To His Brother Kieran Culkin Winning The Oscars

Macaulay Culkin Opens Up About His Emotional Response To His Brother Kieran Culkin Winning The OscarsThe Culkin brothers are just what the doctor ordered. While Kieran Culkin was winning his first Oscar for his performance in ‘A Real Pain,’ big brother Macaulay Culkin was watching it teary-eyed at home.

Macaulay Culkin Reveals What He Told His Brother After His Oscars Win

The boys have come a long way from the Christmas classic ‘Home Alone’ where they played cousins. Now, one of them’s sweeping the awards season clean for his role in ‘A Real Pain’ and the other is in the sidelines being the best supportive brother anyone could ask for.

Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song walked their first red carpet since Kieran nabbed his Oscars win at the annual Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty in Los Angeles, and of course there was no way they were going to escape without being asked what their reaction was to Kieran winning the thing.

But first, did he really watch the entire Oscars ceremony or did the extra long Adrien Brody speech scare him off?

In response, he actually revealed that the only part he watched was the part where he had some skin in the game, and by that I mean via his lovely younger brother Kieran. “Just the best supporting actor. That’s the only thing I watched. True story, true story.”

When host Tan France asked him whether he had communicated with his brother following his win, he said, “I cried. And I was like, ‘I’m gonna see you later.’”

Did they know Kieran was going to win? Brenda Song believes they did, “Of course. Let’s be real. We’re allowed to say that.”

Further diving into the specifics of why they held the belief – apparently some mathematics was involved – Macaulay added, “Yeah, absolutely. He was front row, aisle, closest to the stairs. There was no way he was not going to win.”

Kieran, 42, has been sweeping the awards season for his role as Benki Kaplan in ‘A Real Pain,’ opposite Jesse Eisenberg.

In the movie, Eisenberg and Kieran play two cousins on a Jewish heritage tour in honour of their late grandmother. Prior to his big win at the Oscars, he’d collected a Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice, BAFTAs, and SAG awards. Impressive, right?
