Madonna recently sparked criticism for her appearance at the 2023 Grammys. And in particular, some thought the singer looked like she indulged in too much plastic surgery. But the songstress didn’t hesitate to wage war with her critics. For instance, Madonna described her haters as displaying prejudice against aging.
Find out how the songstress clapped back at critics. And see how Madonna took pride in her appearance during the 2023 Grammys. Get all the details below.
Madonna – Shares Pride In Her Grammys Appearance
During the 2023 Grammys, Madonna introduced Sam Smith and Kim Petras. But the songstress shared her disappointment that trolls ruined the moment for her. “It was an honor for me to introduce Kim Petras and Sam Smith at the Grammys,” noted Madonna via Us magazine.
“I wanted to give the last award, which was Album of the Year,” revealed the singer on Instagram. “But I thought it was more important that I present the first trans woman performing at the Grammys — a history making moment. And on top of that, she won a Grammy!!”
Madonna referred to the fact that Petras, 30, became the first transgender woman to take home the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Petras earned the honor with Sam Smith, 30, for their hit Unholy. But Madonna then discovered that social media focused more on her own appearance than the award winners.
Madonna – Slams Critics For ‘Ageism And Misogyny’
In her speech, the singer sought to express gratitude for “the fearlessness of artists like Sam and Kim.” But rather than listen to Madonna, “many people chose to only talk about close-up photos of me taken with a long lens camera.” And Madonna complained that the photos “would distort anyone’s face.”
Because of the backlash, Madonna felt trapped in “the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in.” And she slammed those who refused to “celebrate women past the age of 45.” But the singer also challenged those who felt that they needed to “punish” her for her “strong-willed, hardworking and adventurous” spirit.
And Madonna asserted, “I have never apologized for any of the creative choices I have made nor the way that I look or dress and I’m not going to start.” However, looking back, the singer blamed the media for degrading her since her career started. “But I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come.”
And Madonna quoted Beyoncé, “You won’t break my soul.” But the singer finished with an announcement. And Madonna shared that she anticipates “many more years of subversive behavior, pushing boundaries, standing up to the patriarchy and most of all enjoying my life. Bow down b*tches!”
