Mariah Carey Is Full Of Surprises

Mariah Carey “Is Full Of Surprises” And She's Ready To Take the Music World By StormOh, you won’t believe this guys. Mariah Carey recorded an alternative rock album in 1995 and now she’s finally going to let it out into the world. And just when you thought the Queen couldn’t top dropping the 25th anniversary album of “Butterflies” with brand new songs. 1995 called and it wants its “grunge era” Carey back.

Was “Ugly Daughter” Mariah Carey’s Rebellion Against Her “R&B-pop Ballad”?

Talking about a lost alternative rock album on Rolling Stones this week, the 53-year-old songstress announced that she’s “just full of surprises”.

The existence of a grunge album Carey heavily contributed to was hinted at in 2020 when she released her memoir “The Meaning Of Mariah Carey”. Through the memoir, the public learned of a secret she kept for over 20 years.

In 1995, Carey quietly worked on an alternative rock album, released under the band name Chicks and featuring vocals from her close friend, Clarissa.

Now, as fate may have it, she’s discovered a version of the album she actually sang on and plans to release the album, titled “Someone’s Ugly Daughter”, to the world soon.

“The quest for that version is going great. We actually have it,” Carey recalled of looking for the record’s once-lost vocal files. “This was my outlet, and nobody knew about it. Most people, I’d rather they don’t even know about it until we decide exactly what happens from that quest of finding those vocals.”

She then explained that she worked on “Someone’s Ugly Daughter” when she was still creatively making 1995’s “Daydream” and would get ideas for songs that didn’t sound anything like what fans have come to associate her with. “Daydream” was a worldwide hit, spawning three singles that peaked at no. 1 on the charts, and became certified as diamond. On the other end of the spectrum, “Someone’s Ugly Daughter” couldn’t scale half as high as “Daydream” did.

Mariah Carey – Grunge Record

“I would just write these things, say, ‘Can you play [vocalizing]?’ to the guitar player, who would happen to be there, while we’re working on records like ‘Always Be My Baby’ and ‘One Sweet Day,’ eventually ‘Fantasy,’ and whatever from that era,” said Carey.

“It’s not that I was like, ‘Oh, I can do that.’ But it was also like, it was such an outlet,” she said of her decision to make a grunge record. “It was like, ‘Let me just do this,’ because after the session, why not? There’s energy, and we were working for whatever — 15, 16 hours on scrutinizing stuff, and then we just made this record all at the same time.”

Mariah Carey also went on to explain that she’ll be experimenting with the album and would definitely love to have other talented artists on board.
