So, Mariah Carey is a big fan of Marilyn Monroe. Yes, that Marilyn Monroe of “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” and “How To Marry A Millionaire”.
In fact, Mariah Carey actually acquired one of Marilyn Monroe’s dearest things: her “baby grand white piano” – that’s just how much the songstress loves the late actress. So it’s not a surprise that when Carey heard of the Broadway show exploring one of the movie’s starring the iconic Marilyn Monroe, she jumped on board.
Mariah Carey To Earn First Broadway Credit With Production Based On One Of Marilyn Monroe’s Movies
Marilyn Monroe’s career may be shortlived, but she did leave a trail of iconic movies behind. One of them, “Some Like It Hot”, is coming to Broadway, with Mariah Carey as a co-producer.
The new Broadway musical was announced on Monday, November 28, marking Mariah Carey’s first Broadway credit.
Carey opted to be involved in the musical remake of the 1959 film because it starred Marilyn Monroe, alongside Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon.
“I first became familiar with this story through the timeless film starring Marilyn Monroe. She’s been an important touchstone throughout my life, so much so that I acquired her treasured baby grand white piano at an auction,” Carey said.
“When Neil Meron shared this new take on the beloved film, I knew I had to be a part of it. To see how this show continues to expand on the film’s legacy — pushing boundaries, promoting inclusion, celebrating diversity — I’m proud to help bring Some Like It Hot for today’s world to new audiences.”
