The Me Too movement took a huge loss today in New York, and the Law & Order star is heartbroken over the court’s decision in the Harvey Weinstein case.
Harvey Weinstein – Verdict Overturned
Harvey Weinstein’s guilty verdict in his 2018 rape case in New York has been overturned and thrown out.
Weinstein’s lawyer argued that the judge in the case didn’t give Harvey a fair shake, and made it nearly impossible for a jury to come to a fair verdict.
The Supreme Court unfortunately agreed that Weinstein’s character was put on trial, rather than cold hard facts in the rape case.
On Thursday April 25 the official announcement came that Harvey Weinstein’s conviction had been overturned, however he will still remain behind bars because of his convictions in California.
Now that the New York case has been thrown out, Weinstein is only facing a remaining 16 years in jail. It will only be a matter of time before his legal team begins tackling the California courts’ rulings next.
Mariska Hargitay – Speaks Out
Law & Order star Mariska Hargitay took to Instagram to share her disappointment in the court’s decision.
The Olivia Benson portrayer shared, “The reversal of Harvey Weinstein’s conviction comes as a painful and infuriating affront to survivors and advocates everywhere. To every survivor in this case and every survivor who has to bear witness to this incorrigible marriage of justice, my heart is with you today, tomorrow, and forever.”
Several celebrities have co-signed the Law & Order actress’ sentiments since she made the profound post on social media. Do you agree with Mariska Hargitay? Were you shocked by the court’s decision in the Harvey Weinstein case?
