Martin Short Sets The Record Straight On Meryl Streep Romance

Ignore the rumors, guys, that’s what it is, ‘just a rumor.’ It’s nowhere near the truth. The “Three Amigos actor Martin Short, has come out to make it clear to his fans who have been thinking and wishing that he and the “She-Devil” actress Meryl Streep would date, to pull the plug on their wishes because there is absolutely nothing going on with him and Streep.

Granted, the two of them are co-stars in the ongoing Hulu series “Only Murders In The Building,” and there’s also the probability of a spark happening while filming but, that’s not the case.

The rumor that the 73-year-old actor and the 74-year-old actress are seeing each other began making waves after the January 7, Golden Globe Awards ceremony.

Whatever it is that their fans saw at the event, led them to believe that there might be something between those two, and can’t wait to see them as the next ‘Power Couple.’ Anyway, on Sunday, January 28, Short showed up on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast to set the record straight.

After host Mayer, 68, jokingly called them “power couple,” the star of “Three Fugitives” replied without batting an eye, “We’re not a couple, we are just very close friends.”

Apparently, Mayer is also rooting for their friendship to move to the next level when he told Short, “Well, you should because there’s nothing more powerful in Hollywood than a power couple. It worked for Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, it worked for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.”

Martin Short — On Short And Streep’s Marriage

The question might be ‘Why aren’t they interested in seeing each other since they are both single and sure look good together?’ There might be a very good answer to that. As for Short, it may be because he’s still very much in love with his dead wife and doesn’t want to move on to someone new.

Short got married to actress Nancy Dolman in 1980, and their marriage produced three children Katherine Elizabeth, 40, Oliver Patrick, 37, and Henry Hayter, 34. However, in 2010, Short lost his wife to ovarian cancer, but although she’s gone, she remains in his heart.

Sometime in 2019, Short told “AARP: The Magazine” how he still communicates with his dead wife, “Our marriage was a triumph, so it’s tough,” said Short to the outlet before adding, “She died in 2010, but I still communicate with her all the time. It’s, ‘Hey Nan,’ you know? How would she react to this decision or that, especially regarding our three kids.”

He also went on to say, “I believe that when people die, they zoom into the people that love them,” he added. “The idea that it just ends, and don’t speak of them — that’s wrong….to me, she’s still here.”

Meanwhile, Streep was married to husband Don Gummer for 45 years before a rep confirmed to “People” in a statement in October that they’ve been separated for the past 6 years.
