The long-standing proposal for the late and legendary Robin Williams to get a statue in Boston has regained steam, courtesy of an artist who cares and the ‘Jason Bourne’ star.
I think we should all hear Matt Damon out in his bid to have a permanent monument dedicated to Robin Williams in the Boston Public Garden.

According to Damon, the bronze statue will not only be a great way to honor the legacy of the actor and comedian, but it will be great for the community as well. The location, if you can remember, is right where he and Williams filmed the iconic park bench scene for their mental health movie’Good Will Hunting.’
“[An artist] proposed to us to do a bronze statue of Robin and permanently put it there,” Damon told journalist Jake Hamilton during a chat on his YouTube channel, Jake’s Takes YouTube channel. “The idea being that if you feel alone you can go sit next to him, which I think is the coolest idea. It would be the most beautiful installation and such a tribute to that guy, who I think would have loved that.”
Damon, however, failed to mention whether the statue will be dedicated to the man or to his iconic character in ‘Good Will Hunting.’ Either way, it would be an agreeable addition to the setting.
In the hit movie, Williams plays psychologist Sean Maguire, who devotes his time to helping Damon’s character Will Hunting get over his general dreary outlook on life in order to unlock his massive potential.
It was notably at the pack bench that the psychologist broke through with Hunting, as he points out that his education and smarts don’t necessarily prepare him for things he doesn’t know.
The film shed a vivid light on the struggles of the mind, something that is even more poignant when you consider that Williams died by suicide after a mental health struggle of his own in 2014.
However, he left behind a legacy that included such movies as 1998’s ‘What Dreams May Come,’ 1995’s ‘Jumanji,’ and 1989’s ‘Dead Poets Society.’
A petition to make a permanent monument for Williams at the site had formerly been proposed by MIT administrator Garry McLinn, but the city was reportedly not interested. Maybe Matt Damon will be able to change their minds. “I hope it comes to pass. I hope they let this artist do it because it would be pretty cool,” Damon said.
