Matt Leblanc Shares How A Drunken Night Helped Him Land The Role Of Joey

Matt LeblancMatt Leblanc reveals that a drunken night out became the reason for him bagging his role in Friends.

During the much-anticipated one-off unscripted special of the cult show, Leblanc shared that he had been preparing for the final call back for his role, running lines with a friend.

Matt Leblanc Recalled That He Went Out For Drinks With A Friend The Day Before His Final Call Back

He explained that his friend said, “So, the show’s about a group of friends? Then we should go out drinking,” to which Leblanc agreed.

He continued that after a few drinks he went back to his friend’s place where he says he “woke up in the middle of the night” needing to go to the toilet.

After His Night Out, While Sleeping Over At His Friend’s Place, The Actor Fell Over And Hurt His Nose

He said,“I got up too fast and – I can’t believe I’m telling you this – I kind of blacked out, as you do, and fell face-first into the toilet. I hit my nose on the bottom of the toilet seat and a huge chunk of meat came off my nose. I’m looking in the mirror and it’s bleeding.”

Leblanc ended up going to his final call back with a “big ugly scab” on his nose, Kaufmann asked what had happened to which Leblanc said: “I told the truth and got the job.”

The unscripted reunion which streamed on HBO Max on May 27 saw the six original cast members – Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc returning to the original set of the show 17 years after it ended.

Hosted by James Corden and featuring several special guests, the actors revisited several fond memories from the show.
