Matthew Perry’s – Stepfather Reacts To Arrests Made In Connection To Star’s Death

Matthew Perry’s stepfather, Keith Morrison, has released a statement addressing the five arrests federal investigators made in connection to Perry’s death.

The 77-year-old Dateline Correspondent shared his gratitude that the police were starting to make some headway in the investigation surrounding his step-son’s tragic death.

“We were and still are heartbroken by Matthew’s death, but it has helped to know law enforcement has taken his case very seriously,” he said in a statement shared with PEOPLE on behalf of the family. “We look forward to justice taking its course and we’re grateful for the exceptional work of the multiple agencies whose agents investigated Matthew’s death.”

In December, Perry’s autopsy revealed that he died from acute effects of ketamine, and therefore his death was revealed to be “accidental.”

On Thursday, Aug. 15, the police announced that several charges have been brought up against Jasveen Sangha, who, according to U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada, is known “The Ketamine Queen.” Sangha was charged alongside licensed physician Dr. Salvador Plascencia.

This is coming as Perry’s personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine. The department of Justice determined that Erik Fleming and Dr. Mark Chavez were also part of the conspiracy to distribute ketamine and charged them separately

Matthew Perry – Was “Closer” To His Mother Before Death Than Decades Ago

Following Perry’s death, Morrison, who married Perry’s mother Suzanne Perry in 1981, talked about how the family is dealing with the pain of the star’s death.

“As other people have told me hundreds of times. It doesn’t go away yet,” he told Hoda Kotb on the Making Space podcast in March. “It’s with you every day. It’s with you all the time.”

“There’s some new aspect of it that assaults your brain, and, you know, it’s not easy, especially for his mom,” the Dateline correspondent continued at the time. “I don’t think I’m giving away too much by saying that toward the end of his life, they were closer than I had seen them for decades, and texting each other constantly and him sharing things with her that most middle-aged men don’t share with their mothers.”

He further called the “Seventeen” star a “larger than life person.”
