Melania Trump is one of the most well-known women in the world. Not only because of her past modeling career but also as the wife to former president and businessman Donald Trump, as well as once being America’s last first lady.

Still, Ms. Trump was once a quiet and shy young girl but has come a long way from those days.

Melania Trump – In The Beginning

The former first lady was born to Viktor Knavs, a traveling car salesman, and Amalija Knavs, a factory worker for a textile company.

As her dad was part of the League of Communists, this allowed the family more opportunities for advancement, versus those against the communist regime.

Living in a small town in Yugoslavia, she grew up with humble beginnings, working hard at school, knitting her own sweaters, and living in a small apartment.

Still, while she never would have anticipated living the life she does now, a school friend, Mirjana Jelancic, once told the Associated Press (AP) that Melania dreamed of moving from the small town of Sevnica, even as a child.

Jelancic also told AP that Melina was a star pupil, who was always kind to her peers. She was studious and also well-mannered.

This connects well to Ms. Trump’s recent “Be Best” anti-bullying campaign while President Trump was in office. Seems like she always had a good-natured personality.

Melanie Trump Set Her Sights On Modeling, Early On

In 2015, a schoolmate of Melania’s, Nena Bedek told the Daily Mail that Ms. Trump was “wholesome” and “quiet”.

There wasn’t much entertainment back in those days and Bedek notes that they played outside a lot and listened to the radio. Melania was fixed on becoming a model, and she loved sketching clothing designs and was “naturally” stylish.

Melania Trump – Made The Great Escape As A Teenager

In 1985 at the age of 15, Melania left her small town for Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital city, which was about an hour away.

She went to the Secondary School of Design and Photography, where she studied architecture; however, two years later she shifted her focus to modeling.

Working under the name “Melania Knauss”, which was a spelling variation of her maiden name, “Knavs”, she would successfully transition from small modeling jobs to an incredible career that had her traveling across the world.

In 1998, she eventually met her future husband, Donald Trump, at a party during New York Fashion Week. As they say, the rest is history.
