Miley Cyrus Opens Up About Her “Complicated” Relationship With Father Billy Ray Cyrus

Whatever you say or think, Miley Stewart and Billy Ray Stewart will always have each other’s backs (speaking of their Hannah Montana characters for the uninitiated). In real life, whilst it’s not always been easy, the tender moments they shared will always draw them together no matter the kind of rift existing between them.

During the Grammy winner’s interview on David Letterman‘s ‘My Next Guest Needs No Introduction,’ she took fans on a deep dive into her relationship with her father.

A lots happened and is happening for the Cyrus family in recent years. For one thing, both of Miley’s parents, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus, got married to different partners shortly after their divorce. And get this, Billy Ray Cyrus has apparently filed for divorce from musician wife, Firerose, citing inappropriate marital conduct.

“Honestly, my mom is my hero,” the “Flowers” hitmaker said on the latest episode of David Letterman’s Netflix series. However, this doesn’t mean that she doesn’t owe much to her dad as well. As fans might recall, the two played a father-daughter duo on Disney Channel’s ‘Hannah Montana’ from 2006 to 2011.

On her dad, she said: “He has a relationship and a foot on the ground to the real and to nature and he always did, even when he was super famous,” she said. “I’m grateful for being able to watch him ahead of me. He’s almost given me this map. And there’s a map of what to do and what not to do, and he’s guided me on both.”

Whilst she doesn’t think that her parents’ contributions to her success “can be weighed on the same scale,” she did share her gratitude to the “different” ways they both helped her become who she is.

Miley Cyrus – Says She Wouldn’t Be Where She Is Without Father Billy Ray Cyrus

Miley’s interview comes on the heels of her father sharing a throwback pic of him and baby Miley and calling it one of his best memories. He also praised the star for her strength and resilence and for her dedication to her career and her fans. The “Achy Breaky Heart” singer also mentioned one thing they have in common in the heartwarming post.

Well, Miley named another thing they have in common during her latest interview; their creativity.

“Without my dad, I know — I mean, not just literally I wouldn’t be sitting in this chair, I wouldn’t exist — but I would not, who I am as a person, it wouldn’t exist. Because my dad, as a creative and as an artist in the way that his brain works, has always made me feel safer in my own mind because we’re very similar in our ideas,” Miley said. “So I think a lot of his perspective on reality and on life, I’ve inherited from him, more so than the way that I was raised — which really, my mom raised me.”
