The Department of Justice held a press conference the morning of Thursday, August 15 stating an investigation uncovered a broad “underground criminal network” that included the Friends star’s doctors and assistant.

The participants took advantage of Perry’s addiction issues by selling ketamine to the actor.

Five Charged In “Underground Criminal Network” Linked To Matthew Perry’s Death

U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada announced during the media conference that, “This network included a live-in assistant, various go-betweens, two medical doctors and a major source of drug supply known as ‘The Ketamine Queen’.”

Estrada noted that the individuals knew what they were doing was wrong and the dire risk to Perry, but did it anyways, as they were more interested in the profit of it all than “caring” for the actor’s well-being.

Dr. Salvador Plasencia and drug trafficker Jasveen Sangha are the lead defendants in the case, who worked with Dr. Mark Chavez, as well as the actor’s live-in assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, and a “broker” by the name of Erik Fleming.

They obtained ketamine and sold it to Perry. Chavez, Fleming, and Iwasama pleaded guilty to the charges.

Matthew Perry’s Shocking & Untimely Passing

Perry passed away on October 28, 2023. He was only 54 years old.

He was found dead in the hot tub of his L.A. home, with traces of ketamine in his system.

At that point in time, his death was ruled as an accidental overdose; however, it has been reported that this past May, the LAPD were working with federal officials to look into the source of the ketamine Perry took.

Over a two-month time in the fall of last year, the individuals charged delivered about 20 vials of ketamine to the actor for $55,000 in cash.

It is being reported that Plasencia mocked Matthew in a text message in 2023, writing, “I wonder how much this moron will pay.”

There were also times Plasencia injected the Friends star will illegal ketamine and watched on as the actor would “freeze up and his blood pressure spike,” Estrada stated during the media conference.

Estrada also noted, “Despite that, he left additional vials of ketamine for defendant Iwamasa to administer to Mr. Perry,” – Iwasama had no medical training.

Before his passing, it had been reported that the actor was in ketamine therapy for anxiety and depression.
