Neve Campbell Reveals Why She’s Excited To Be Covered In Blood

It’s been nearly a quarter-century since the first film in the Hollywood Scream franchise debuted. Filming is now underway on Scream 5 and star Neve Campbell is speaking out about coming back to film the latest installment of the horror cult classic decades later.

Neve returns as Sidney Prescott and Courteney Cox returns as reporter Gale Weathers with David Arquette back as Woodsboro Sheriff Dewey Riley. Scream 5 is being filmed in Wilmington, NC, the same location as the previous four movies.

Neve told Entertainment Tonight that she’s thrilled to be back at work after the 2020 COVID-19 production shut down.

“It will be the first time since March and I am sure we are all dealing with getting back to work, so I am excited about that. I am excited [about] stepping back in Sidney’s shoes and seeing Courteney and David.”

Scream was released in 1996 and was an instant hit leading to a plethora of subsequent films. All films involve killer Ghostface terrorizing innocent and clueless parties; Scream 4 was released in 2011.

Courtney went on Instagram on July 31, 2020, and broke the news that Scream 5 was a reality.

Neve went on The Talk this week and said, “I’m 47 and I’m going to be covered in blood. I’m excited … to see this young new cast.”

Among the newbies are Cuba Gooding Jr.’s son Mason Gooding, 23, 13 Reasons Why’s Dylan Minette, 23, and The Leftovers’ Jasmin Savoy Brown, 26.

Wes Craven headed up the original Scream and the next three sequels. He passed away on August 30, 2015, at age 76, and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are now co-directors for Scream 5.

Neve says she is looking forward to meeting the new directors admitting that she had been apprehensive after Craven passed away. “But the new directors came to me with this beautiful letter, saying they’ve become directors and love film because of these films and because of Wes,” she said.

“And they really want to be true to his story and his journey with these films. So, I was really happy to hear that.” Scream 5 will be released in 2021. Do you have a favorite Scream movie–We’d love to hear about it!
