While addressing the Fox Fall Press Day in Los Angeles on September 5th, the musician elaborated on his prior words, in which he stated being open to reconnecting with Carey, 55, despite their years of separation.
“Yeah, she don’t want me,” Cannon confessed in an interview with People. “She’s moved on from my crazy antics.”
A Second Chance With Mariah Carey?
In August, Cannon had expressed hope for a second chance with Carey during an interview with E! News. He said that the two “belong together” and that it would be stupid to rule out making amends.
Monroe and Moroccan, the couple’s twins who are 13 years old, are shared by the former couple, who divorced in 2014. They were wed for six years.
Both Cannon and Carey have been dedicated to co-parenting their kids ever after their divorce. Despite acknowledging that raising a large family is difficult, Cannon, who has fathered 10 more children with five different partners, is committed to being a present father.
“Yeah, I mean, to their credit, you know what I mean? Dealing with me must be madness,” he joked.
The key to making his unique family dynamics work, according to Cannon, is prioritizing the children. “At the end of the day, if you put the kids first and remove ego, you can do anything,” he told People.
He added that he and his children had a “great summer” together, spending time in Malibu, traveling, and visiting the beach.
Cannon’s Focus On Preparing His Kids For School
Now, with summer behind them, Cannon’s focus has shifted to preparing his kids for the new school year. He fondly recalled his own childhood memories of shopping for school clothes and helping his children get excited about the upcoming year.
However, not all of his kids share the same enthusiasm for returning to school. Cannon’s seven-year-old son, Golden Sagon, is already in the fourth grade and, according to Cannon, “He’s just so smart that even school is boring to him.”
The transition from summer fun to schoolwork has proven to be a challenge, but Cannon is determined to keep the excitement alive throughout the year. “It’s like getting him re-engaged and excited because he had so much fun during the summer,” he explained. “We can still have just as much fun during the school year.”
Cannon Finds Raising Teenagers Scary
Despite his cheerful attitude towards parenting, Cannon admits that raising teenagers — especially his twins Moroccan and Monroe — has its own set of challenges. “Teenagers are scary. I feel like I’m still a teenager,” he said.
Watching his daughter grow into a young woman has been particularly emotional for the star. “To see my daughter literally becoming a young woman before my eyes, it is very scary.”
Though Cannon has moved forward with his life, his remarks about Carey have kept fans speculating about the possibility of a reunion. But for now, it seems Cannon is content focusing on his ever-expanding family and navigating the complexities of fatherhood.
