Nick Cannon Reveals His Insecurities In Relationship With Mariah Carey

Nick Cannon Reveals His Insecurities In Relationship With Mariah CareyIn an October 24 episode of the Ray Daniels Presents podcast, Nick Cannon reflected on his marriage to Mariah Carey and revealed his thoughts on the insecurities he faced.

The 44-year-old host of Wild ‘n Out discussed how marrying one of the biggest stars in the world at a young age led him to question his identity. “I got married in my 20s to the biggest star in the world,” Cannon said.

He recalled late nights filled with thoughts like, “I would lay up at night thinking, ‘Is this who I am? Am I Mariah’s man? Is that what my life’s supposed to be?”

Losing The ‘Hustler’ Mentality And Feelings Of Inadequacy

Cannon, who married Carey in 2008, admitted that while he became comfortable in the role, he also lost his “hustler” mentality. He humorously described a luxury lifestyle, saying, “She got islands, I’m waking up at noon and I’m being served steaks on a platter.”

The arrival of their twins, Moroccan and Monroe, in 2011 prompted Cannon to reconsider his position within their family dynamic.

He expressed feelings of inadequacy, stating, “I’m carrying the purse, the diaper bag and I’m standing on the corner waiting,” he explained. “She’s rocking being all the alpha that she is.”

Cannon acknowledged that he believed Carey deserved a partner who could fully support her, emphasizing, “I was like, ‘You need somebody. You need a support system. You need somebody that don’t want you for your money. You need somebody that’s sincere. You need somebody that’s ready to build a family, raise some amazing kids together. And that was my goal. But then there was something constantly in me like…”[

Time Of Realization And Clarity

These insecurities also extended to his professional life, as he began to wonder whether his achievements at Nickelodeon and Island Def Jam were a result of Carey’s connections.

He noted, “I was wearing suits every day cause I’m trying to prove that I’m a man. The inner adolescent in me, I’m trying to prove that I’m a man because I’m standing next to a woman.”

Ultimately, Cannon’s battle with Lupus brought clarity, making him realize, “I have so much to do.” He humorously remarked, “That’s probably why I have 12 kids now.”

Following his separation from Carey in 2016, Cannon has welcomed several children with different partners.

Despite their divorce, he has hinted that Carey is the one that got away, joking with E! News in August, “We belong together. Yes, absolutely. It would be foolish of me not to.” He added, “She doesn’t want me.”
