Last year didn’t exactly end well for the Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter. Following the death of his brother Aaron Carter in November 2022, Nick was slammed with a lawsuit in December 2022 from a woman named Shannon Ruth who claims that the star singer sexually assaulted her over a decade ago when she was 17 years old.
Three other unnamed women also came out to accuse Nick of sexual assaults but, Nick has decided to take charge of the situation by fighting back and countersuing two of them.
Nick is countersuing Shannon Ruth, and former teen pop singer Melissa Schuman but, before you get the details of Nick’s countersuit, let me fill you in briefly on when and how Nick’s accusers met Nick.
Nick Carter — Shannon Ruth, Melissa Schuman’s Story
Shannon Ruth met Nick while she qued up for the singer’s autograph. Shannon alleged that she was lured into Nick’s tour bus by the singer in the year 2001 when she was 17 years old. There, Nick asked her what she would like to drink and she requested apple juice. Shannon said that Nick provided her with a relish drink which he said was cranberry juice but she was sure it was alcohol. Afterward, Nick proceeded to sexually assaulted her.
Shannon is said to be autistic, and in the press conference she had per “Page Six” she said, “Even though I’m autistic and live with cerebral palsy, I believe that nothing has affected me more or had a more lasting impact on my life than what Nick Carter did and said to me.” Melissa’s case is different as she claimed to have met Nick in the early 2000s while they were both working together on a project. According to her, she was 18 then while Nick was 22. She first filed the lawsuit against Nick in 2017, accusing him of rape.
According to Melissa, Nick invited her to his home, and they ended up kissing in his bathroom. Melissa claimed that she refused Nick’s advances and specifically told him that she was a virgin and wanted to save herself for marriage but Nick raped her anyways. Nick has denied every accusation leveled against him.
Nick Carter — Nick Carter Countersues Shannon Ruth
And Melissa Schuman
Nick Carter who said that he has lost about 2.3 million dollars in business since the rise of these allegations in December has decided to fight back and clear his name.
His countersuit claims that both Shannon and Melissa are “opportunists” who want to use the #MeTooMovement for a 5-year conspiracy, meant to “defame and vilify Carter and otherwise ruin his reputation for the purposes of garnering attention and fame and/or extorting money from Carter.”
Nick claimed that Melissa and her father groomed a “vulnerable and highly impressionable” Shannon, “craving attention and desperate to fit in.” Shannon’s lawyer Mark J. Boskovich, in a conversation with Page Six, asked, “Why should Nick Carter be believed with his long history of abusing females? A jury will weigh the evidence and decide.”
Nick Carter – Claimed That Melissa Ruth And Shannon Schuman Took Advantage Of His Brother
Also in the lawsuit obtained by “PEOPLE” Nick claimed that Melissa and Shannon took advantage of his brother Aaron’s death to plot their plans of bringing him down.
“The Schumans’ timing couldn’t have been better since, at the time, Aaron was addicted to drugs, battling serious mental health issues, and engaged in a misguided campaign of retaliation against Carter and other members of his family who were worried about Aaron and pushing him to seek professional help.”
The countersuit also alleged that “Schuman, Jerome, and Ruth exploited Aaron’s fragile condition and family stresses to cloak their defamatory campaign with credibility, relentlessly and repeatedly using Aaron to try to legitimize their frivolous tales.” Be sure to catch up on everything happening with Nick Carter right now.
