A new documentary is diving deep into the murder of Rob and Michele Reiner at the hands of their schizophrenic son, and one thing seems to stand clear: the change to his medication might have contributed to the outbreak that led to the gruesome incidents.
Nick Reiner Essentially Doesn’t Understand Why He’s In Jail Following His Violent Crimes
TMZ has commissioned a documentary that details the intricate little details that eventually led to Rob and Michele losing their lives at the hands of their own son.
“Sources connected to the Reiner family tell us Nick knows what he did,” Charles Latibeaudiere, the co-executive producer at TMZ, said. “He knows that he killed his parents, but he doesn’t understand why he’s in jail. He’s delusional. He thinks this is all a conspiracy against him.”
After being diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder in 2020, Nick has been using medication since then. However, a month before he murdered his parents, his medication was changed up, rendering him “messed up profoundly.”
Soon after the new change in medication, Nick was said to have become more violent, displaying a more erratic behavior. The consensus by experts was that Nick should have been detained by this time, while his doctors worked to figure out his medication.
The documentary continued to claim that his medication still hasn’t been gotten right even now, leaving him a delusional mess in jail. For this reason, his team is gearing up to not pleas guilty by reason of insanity.
Per the Mayo Clinic, schizoaffective disorder is “a mental health condition marked by a mix of schizophrenia symptoms, such as hallucinations and delusions, and mood disorder symptoms.”
Professional Describes the Major Symptoms Displayed By A Person Affected By Schizoaffective Disorder
Board certified psychiatrist Dr. Josef Witt-Doerring described the symptoms as ranging from paranoia “mood, low motivation [and] withdrawing socially.”
“The scariest thing about it is that when you’re altering your brain chemistry with illicit substances, i.e., you’re abusing methamphetamines, you’re abusing opiates, things of that nature, it can exacerbate the symptoms and make them exponentially worse,” Dr. Witt-Doerring said in the documentary.
Nick has been open with his mental struggles, even going as far as to depict his experiences in a movie Rob directed, titled “Being Charlie.” He’s been to rehab for his substance abuse at least 18 times.
