Alice Cooper believes deeply that Depp’s trial against ex-wife Amber Heard was blown way out of proportion and that the internet over-reacted to it. On the other hand, the Hollywood Vampires didn’t care enough to bring the topic up with Depp. And yeah, looking back at that era I think that there’s a lot of topics that could have been discussed at the time that weren’t being discussed because of our obsession with this one trial. Even now, in the aftermath of the verdict, the topic is yet to completely die down.
Johnny Depp Didn’t Discuss the Trials When On Tour: “What’s the Next Song?”
During a recent interview with Vulture, Alice Cooper shared that Depp’s defamation trial against Heard was not a topic that was discussed while the band was on tour. According to Cooper, “he never watched a moment” of the televised Virginia trial.
When asked about Depp’s general approach to the topic during their recent tour, Cooper replied that it wasn’t a topic that was particularly of interest. “Not at all. If you talk to Johnny about it, it was something that happened,” Cooper said.
“He was just like, ‘Yeah, yeah, what’s the next song?’ For Johnny, it was one of those things where … you can’t say it got blown out of proportion, but I don’t know why they would televise the proceedings, right?” Cooper added. “It’s because of the fame of both people.”
Alice Cooper Never Watched A Moment Of The Trial, But Believed Johnny Depp Would Win For This Reason
Cooper then said that he doesn’t necessarily recall a moment of the tour when they actively discussed it.
“I don’t think it was ever mentioned on the tour because nobody cared. I never watched a moment of the trials,” he said. “It was so blown out of proportion. It was such a Hollywood thing.”
“I knew Johnny was gonna win because how many people have other exes literally on their side testifying for him? That never happens,”
Cooper added. “I turned it right off and said, ‘Well, you know, Johnny will weather this storm and when he’s onstage, he’s our guitar player.’ “
Depp spent the summer touring with the Hollywood Vampires, which consists of him, Cooper, Joe Perry and Tommy Henriksen.
Depp started touring even before the verdict for the lawsuit, which found Heard guilty of defamation, was reached.
Later on, Heard would agree to pay Depp $1 million after both parties dropped their appeal.
