While the audience may have been disappointed, Gayle King let them know on CBS Mornings that her friend was rushed to the hospital, is on an IV, and things were serious.
Winfrey was supposed to help promote a new book that was a part of Oprah’s Book Club by David Wroblewski. More details on Oprah’s condition, are below.
Oprah Winfrey Hospitalized – What Happened?
When it came to the “why” Oprah was hospitalized, Gayle noted it was a bad stomach bug. She’d go on to say, “She had some kind of stomach thing — stomach flu — stuff was coming out of both ends. I won’t get too graphic. Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydration, had to get an IV, it was a very serious thing.”
King notes that her bestie was getting better, and she hoped Oprah wouldn’t mind that she let people know about her health news.
Oprah wanted to be there to support Wroblewski, which is why Gayle got so detailed about why her friend wasn’t there. King also stated, “I wanted to make it clear that [the book] matters to her and it really bothered her that she couldn’t be here today,” Gayle said. “She so, so loved this book.”
Oprah Winfrey – Is On The Mend
Oprah’s representative notes, via Page Six, that the former talk show host is, “recovering following the stomach flu and received an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor. She is resting and feeling better every day.”
At the age of 68, Winfrey agreed to appear on Gayle’s show to introduce Wroblewski and his new book, “Familiaris”, a sequel to his last novel, “The Story of Edgar Sawtelle”, which was published in 2008; another book Oprah also promoted.
Oprah called Wroblewski’s newest book an “extraordinary journey that brilliantly interweaves history, philosophy, adventure, and mysticism to explore the meaning of love, friendship, and living your life’s true purpose.”
