Paris Hilton Stands With Long-Time Friend Britney Spears

Paris Hilton And Britney SpearsFollowing the release of a new documentary about singer/songwriter Britney Spears, the #freebritney movement has reignited, and fans all over the world are speaking out in support of ending the 13-year conservatorship that bordered the singer’s freedom.

Paris Hilton “Can’t Imagine Being Controlled” Like Britney Spears

Paris Hilton has continually shown support for her old friend Britney Spears, speaking out against the injustice of the whole conservatorship scheme during different occasions. And after the release of a detailed shocking new documentary about Spears’ personal struggles, Hilton rallies behind her friend.

The New York Time Presents: Framing Britney Spears was released on Hulu earlier this month and showcases the 39-year-old pop star’s rise to fame, the tabloid and paparazzi’s perception of her, and what life currently is for her as she faces a controversial conservatorship that was implemented in 2008, after her hospitalization for mental issues. The program features interviews and appearances by fans and friends, including Paris.

Paris was so critical about the conservatorship when she heard about the documentary, and on Thursday, February 25, she once again made known her stance on the whole drama, saying, “I haven’t spoken to her in a few months. I haven’t even watched the film yet, because I’ve been so busy. But I heard it’s a really sad movie,” she continued, “It makes me really feel for her, because she’s such a sweet girl and has such a big heart and I just can’t imagine being controlled like that. You know, when you’re an adult and you’ve worked your whole for building this empire and then just to be treated like a child, it’s just not fair.”

What The Conservatorship Means To Britney Spears

The princess of pop’s career and some aspects of her personal life have been in the hands of legal guardians in an arrangement called a conservatorship since she had mental health issues back in 2008.

Under this new management of the singer’s life, her father is to have control over her estate and certain aspects of personal life. She can’t leave the country without approval, she can’t marry without approval, she can’t even spend her own hard-earned money without approval, and above all, she does not have control over her creative career decisions.

In recent years, the singer has fought back against the conservatorship, seeking to be free from it, and has made her wish clear on that front. Last year, her lawyers embarked on a legal battle to win back her freedom. They said that Spears was afraid of her father and would not resume her career while he controlled it. A statement which Spears is yet to confirm.

But after the hearing, in November last year, a judge declined to remove Mr. Spears, instead naming financial firm the Bessemer Trust as a co-conservator instead. A move that Mr. Spears was not so happy about. He argued that he should maintain the previous level of power that he had over his daughter, and strongly objected to the Bessemer Trust involvement.

Jamie Spears not the villain of the story

After the release of the documentary, which prompted the court to impose a limit on Jamie Spears’ control over his daughter, fans have taken to social media to fiercely protest that Jamie should return Britney’s complete freedom and step aside, with some claiming that he’s just after his daughter’s bank account.

On Thursday, Good Morning America aired an interview with his lawyer.

“I understand that every story needs a villain but people have it so wrong here. This is a story about a fiercely loving, dedicated and loyal father who rescued his daughter from a life-threatening situation. People were harming her, and they were exploiting her. Jamie saved Britney’s life.”

Britney’s conservatorship is currently set to last until September 2021, with the next hearing on the case scheduled for March 17.
