“We wanted the kids to be Irish. They were sort of at that age where they were pre-teens and had very posh English accents and I wasn’t appreciating that too much! So we decided to come back,” Murphy shared.
Murphy, who grew up in Ireland, moved to England back in 2001 to pursue his goals. The actor and his wife Yvonne McGuinness welcomed their two sons in 2005 and 2007. It wasn’t until 2015 that the 28 Days Later star and McGuinness decided it was time to return back to Dublin.
Peaky Blinders – An Irish Story
Murphy did share that their sons’ accents were not the only reason for the move. “It’s kind of an Irish story to move away, do your thing and come home, that seems to be a common narrative for Irish people.”
Murphy added, “And you know, our parents are at a certain age. It was just a nice time to come home.”
It appears Dublin is the place Murphy and his family to stay for the long haul. The actor was also asked about being in showbiz and whether he would ever live California or would move there at any point in the future for work.
“I love visiting and I love the food and I do love the weather,” he concluded. “I don’t know, I just feel European, I just feel Irish. I’d feel like a bit of an interloper if I lived in California, I couldn’t envisage living there permanently.”
Peaky Blinders – Focus On Family
When he isn’t on set, Murphy shared with Shepard and Padman that he focuses solely on his family, friends and outside interests. He hangs out with his friends, who are not in the business, and enjoys staying out of the spotlight.
Murphy is currently working on the upcoming movie Oppenheimer in the title role with a long list of well known celebs; Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Gary Oldman and Florence Pugh. The forty-five year old is also set to voice the character of Dad in the animation movie Kensuke’s Kingdom.
