Pete Davidson – Does ‘I’m Just Ken’ Barbie Ballad Spoof On SNL
Hosting on Saturday Night Live (SNL) for the first time, Pete Davidson took a cue from the popularity of the Barbie movie.
And the 29-year-old mocked Ryan Gosling’s I’m Just Ken ballad. But he used it to get across several messages. For instance, Pete mourned his career when SNL cast members asked why he hosted the season debut, noted Us.
“No one cares about the work I do,” Davidson sang. “I made a show with Joe Pesci too and no one streamed it but my mom.” But he then crooned, “When I’m high, I do things like call up Colin Jost. And say ‘Homie, we should buy a boat.’ They tell me I have butthole eyes, but I never sleep alone at night.”
And then Davidson commented that he feels like “just Pete.” But as he held a finger to his mouth to show silence, SNL posted a pic of Kanye West. And that led to Davidson’s hint that his feud with Kanye continues.
Pete Davidson – Revisits Kanye West Feud On SNL
Last year, West referred to Davidson as Skete in repeated social media slams amid Pete’s then-relationship with Kim Kardashian. Kim and Kanye split in 2021 after a six-year marriage. And she then moved on with Davidson. But the 42-year-old reality TV star and the comedian broke up in August 2022 after dating for a few months.
And in his ballad, Pete also mentioned his dating experiences. “I’m just Pete,” he crooned. “My dating life is not discrete. I generate tons of publicity for everything except my comedy.”
Pete at first planned to host in May. But the Writers Guild of America strike required the cancellation. And he commented at the time, “It just sucks because it feeds my weird story I have in my head, like, ‘Of course that would happen to me’,” he noted.
But when the WGA ended the work stoppage, Davidson received the opportunity to host. And though SAG-AFTRA, which represents actors, continues to strike, Saturday Night Live returned due to a special ruling. SAG-AFTRA members who appear on Saturday Night Live as hosts, guests or cast members work under the Network Code agreement. Therefore, the union stated that the SNL stars have not violated SAG-AFTRA strike rules. “And we support them in fulfilling their contractual obligations,” added the union.
