Prince’s Siblings Taken To Court Over Estate Control In New Court Documents

When Prince died of fentanyl overdose in 2016, it was a sad day for his fans everywhere. The musician was beloved for his charisma, voice and songwriting style.

However, his death might have caused more problems than one, because, since he died without a will and his six siblings and half-sibling inherited the estate equally, they have been locked in a never-ending war that’s sadly outlasted some of them.

Just when the court battles seem to reach its end, a company that represented three of Prince’s sibling heirs has sued four of them to court. Here’s the story.

Judge Declines To Dismiss Lawsuit Against Heirs In New Development

It’s been eight years since Prince died, and nearly two years after the lengthy court battle slowly drew to a close, and yet a new legal battle is already brewing.

In January, one-time Prince attorney L. Londell McMillan and Charles Spicer Jr., who represented three of the singer’s six sibling heirs, filed a lawsuit against four of the heirs, including half-sister Sharon Nelson, who they previously represented in the battle over the estate.

Their filing involved control of an LLC that was established in 2022 to manage the fifty percent stake they owned in the estate.

The heirs then made moves to dismiss the lawsuit, but a judge in Delaware – where the McMillan and Spicer lawsuit was filed – denied the move.

For context, when Prince died in 2016 without a will, his estate was shared equally among his six siblings and half-sibling – two of whom have sadly also passed away during the battle for the estate.

McMillan and Spicer’s lawsuit argued against Sharon Nelson’s plan to remove them from their managerial duties in Prince Legacy LLC, which was formed after the IRS declared Prince’s net worth to be around $156 million – the ruling that was hopefully looked upon to end the lengthy court battle.

The lawsuit further explained that Sharon Nelson regretted the terms, and attempted to seize hold of the LLC by amending certain laws in the agreement that would lead to McMillan and Spicer being removed as its managers.

That same Friday, the judge also ruled against the heirs, saying that Sharon Nelson did not have the authority to amend the LLC without authorization.
