Rapper Nelly Clarifies He Did Not Perform At Trump Inauguration For Money

Rapper Nelly Clarifies He Did Not Perform At Trump Inauguration For MoneyDonald Trump may be returning to the office for the second non-consecutive time, but the reality is still shocking for some. So shocking, in fact, that they would take to the internet to slam the artists who have accepted to perform at the inauguration ceremony of the Republican candidate.

Carrie Underwood, Nelly, and Snoop Dogg are feeling the heat right now. Well, Nelly won’t take the racist, slanderous and outright disturbing remarks anymore. This is not a political rally America, this is an inauguration ceremony for a President who was voted into the office.

Nelly – Says He Isn’t Getting “Political” With His Donald Trump Performance

Before you make another disparaging argument, Nelly wants you to remember that whether he performs at the Trump inauguration ceremony or doesn’t do so, Donald Trump will become president. The absence of his rap flows and hip-hop grooves won’t change that. So why are fans acting like he’s literally swearing the guy into office?

“This is not me telling you, ‘Yo, you should vote for this candidate.’ I think you should do your homework and figure out what best helps you and the people who you love and you provide for because I’m clueless on a lot of things when it gets down to it,” he said.

“But what I will say is that, I respect the office. This isn’t politics. The politics, for me, is over. [Trump] won! He’s the president. He’s the commander in chief of what I would like to say is the best country in the world … It is an honour for me to perform for the president of the United States, regardless of who is in office.”

He meaningfully added: “If President Biden would’ve asked me to perform, I would’ve performed. If Vice-President Kamala Harris would’ve won and asked me to perform, I would’ve performed … I didn’t know that you was riding with me because you thought I would ride for who you voted for. I didn’t know that I had to agree with your political choices. If you follow what I do, this shouldn’t even be an argument.”

Nelly – Says He Respects the Office Of Presidency Regardless of Who Holds It

The rapper also touched on the job of service people during the conversation with Willie D Live, using it to justify his stance.

Even though Nelly had revealed in the past that he isn’t the keenest fan of Trump during his first presidency, he still respects the office enough to know that performing during the inauguration ceremony is an honor.

“I’m not doing this for money, I’m doing this because it’s an honor. I respect the office. It doesn’t matter who is in office,” he said. “The same way that our men and women, our brothers and sisters who protect this country, have to go to war and have to put their life on the line for whoever in office. So if they can put their life on the line for whoever in office, I can damn sure perform.”
