Rihanna will soon join an elite group of artists who have managed to perform at both the Super Bowl and the Oscars in the same year. Apart from being the first musician to perform at the Superbowl Halftime show pregnant, she’s also skyrocketed to the top of the Billboard artist 100 chart after performing her biggest hits at the sporting event earlier this month.
On 12 March, she will be performing her first piece of music in six years, “Lift Me Up”, at Hollywood’s biggest night.
Rihanna – Is Set To Perform “Lift Me Up” At the Oscars
The Navies are having a good year. After an extended hiatus from music by the Barbadian singer, she’s slowly dipping her toes back into the world of music. Her return to music started with “Lift Me Up” – a song she performed for the second movie in the “Black Panther” franchise, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, then progressed with her 13-minute set at the Super Bowl, and she will continue the comeback with a performance at this year’s Oscars.
“Lift Me Up” – the song created with Tems, Ryan Coogler and Ludwig Göransson – also received an Oscar nod, becoming Rihanna’s first nomination. The 95th Academy Awards ceremony will be broadcast on 12 March and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
“I’m feeling open to exploring, discovering, creating things that are new, things that are different, things that are off, weird. Might not ever make sense to my fans … I want to have fun with music,” Rihanna said ahead of her Super Bowl performance, hinting at her desire to make a comeback to music after she stepped back to work on her other business ventures, including Fenty Beauty make-up brand and her Savage X Fenty lingerie line.
With her upcoming performance at the Oscars, Rihanna will join the likes of Beyonce and Lady Gaga, who both dazzled as musical guests on the Academy Award stage in recent years.
Alongside Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up”, other nominees for best original song include Diane Warren for Applause from the film Tell It Like a Woman; This Is A Life from Ryan Lott, Mitski and David Byrne from the film Everything Everywhere All At Once; and Naatu Naatu by M M Keeravaani and Chandrabose from the Indian action film RRR.
