Robert Downey Jr. Intends To Sue All Executives Who Recreate His AI Likeness

This is something that’s currently dividing Hollywood: Executives wanting AI likeness of movie stars to use in different entertainment programs. Is this nice or even fair? Downey Jr. thinks not. If you try that with his likeness, he’ll sue.

Robert Downey – Shares His Thoughts On Hollywood’s Digital Recreation

The rapid advancements in AI is making a lot of people jittery. AI can write and perform songs that fit the style of The Weeknd’s, or even Taylor Swift’s or Justin Bieber’s, and this is making many people unhappy.

Already, some artists have sued to stop this. There’s a wider call to restrict the extent that AI can rein over our lives – at least for now – but even that doesn’t seem to be enough.

Hollywood execs and studios are keen to adapt AI in filmmaking and are already partnering with companies offering the technology.

For example, though controversial, AI-driven software like deepfake technology has been used to create realistic face swaps in movies.

When asked to share his thoughts on this new direction that Hollywood is taking, he told host Kara Swisher, “There’s two tracks. How do I feel about everything that’s going on? I feel about it minimally because I have an actual emotional life that’s occurring that doesn’t have a lot of room for that.”

“To go back to the MCU, I am not worried about them hijacking my character’s soul because there’s like three or four guys and gals who make all the decisions there anyway and they would never do that to me, with or without me,” he added.

Robert Downey Jr. – Slams AI Companies That Claim To Have Image Rights

When the conversation turned towards the possibility of Marvel recreating his beloved character Iron Man from his likeness, he turned a bit serious, “Well, you’re right. I would like to here state that I intend to sue all future executives just on spec.”

Robert Downey Jr. is currently deeply involved in opening convo around AI through his broadway play, ‘McNeal,’ which takes aim at corporate giants in the AI space such as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

“I don’t envy anyone who has been over-identified with the advent of this new phase of the information age. The idea that somehow it belongs to them because they have these super huge start-ups is a fallacy,” Downey told Swisher about figures like Altman.

“The problem is when these individuals believe that they are the arbiters of managing this but meanwhile are wanting and/or needing to be seen in a favorable light. That is a massive fucking error. It turns me off and makes me not want to engage with them because they are not being truthful.”
