Not many billionaires are like Elon Musk, except maybe Tony Stark/Iron Man, but then he’s fictional. The multi-billionaire has often drawn comparisons with the popular Marvel character for a long time and has even attempted to cosplay him in real life a few times. Fyi, he even had a brief cameo on ‘Iron Man 2.’
Now the man who played the iconic Iron Man character has some few words for him that anyone can easily interpret as “grow up.”
Robert Downey Jr. Expresses Disappointment Over Elon Musk’s Behavior
Maybe this isn’t even a political thing – Elon Musk has made it clear he’s mightily team Republican – but Robert Downey Jr. isn’t amused by Musk’s eccentric billionaire behavior anymore.
These days, any little time you find Musk not being political or trying to be funny, you’ll find him promoting his ultra-futuristic brands Tesla and SpaceX. And he’s clearly enthused with his dancing robots and all the love they’re getting.
Even though Musk appeared on a scene where Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark was out with girlfriend Pepper Potts at the Monaco, Grand Prix, the ‘Dr. Dolittle’ actor isn’t particularly a big fan.
During his conversation with Kara Swisher on the podcast ‘On with Kara Swisher,’ the host asked Downey Jr. what he thought of Musk cosplaying his famous character and his answer was just unbelievable.
He said: “I’ve only met him a few times. As an almost 60-year-old recovering white American male, I just wish that he would control his behavior a little more, but that’s not on me.”
However, it wasn’t only harsh words that he had in store for the billionaire. He also commended him for some of his more “valuable” works. “I know that this idea of ‘It’s all okay ’cause we’ve gotta get to Mars’ doesn’t really hold water with me. But again, you know, you have to look at all that he’s done that demonstrates why he’s valuable,” Downey Jr. added.
What Marvel Writer Mark Fergus Has To Say About Tony Stark’s Real-life Counterparts
For many years, many have suggested that the ‘Space X’ founder is cosplaying Marvel’s ‘Iron Man,’ but what if it’s ‘Iron Man’ that cosplayed him first?
In a 2022 chat with New York Magazine, ‘Iron Man’ writer Mark Fergus revealed that the Marvel character, who officially debuted in comics in 1962, drew its live-action inspiration from three real people: Musk, Donald Trump, and the Apple cofounder, Steve Jobs.
Fergus said: “Musk took the brilliance of Jobs with the showmanship of Trump. He was the only one who had the fun factor and the celebrity vibe and actual business substance.”
Before his turn to politics as the owner of X, Musk had found heightened coverage in pop culture for his beliefs that humans will colonize Mars, his role as Tesla’s CEO and his appearances in different sci-fi movies, including ‘Machete Kills,’ ‘Transcendence,’ ‘Why Him?’ and ‘Men in Black: International.’
