Robert Downey Jr. Reveals He Was ‘Jealous’ Of Rob Lowe Back In High School

The “Iron Man” actor Robert Downey Jr. went down memory lane, back to his days in high school, and recalled how he felt about his fellow actor Rob Lowe who attended the same school with him in the 80s.

In a recent appearance on Lowe’s “Literally” podcast on Thursday, Downey shared how he was always envious of how Lowe could juggle between high school and his acting career.

The two attended Santa Monica High School and shared history class together but Low managed to leave Downey bewildered at how he perfectly does both his class homework and Hollywood homework too. As the conversation progressed, Downey confessed to Lowe, “I want to say I was jealous, but that’s not deep enough.”

He went on to add, “I didn’t understand how anyone could get where you were, let alone still have attendance in school. It just seemed like there was something so high-functioning going on that there was no point for me to even attempt to understand it.”

Robert Downey Jr. — Rob Lowe’s Reaction To Downey’s Revelation

Upon hearing what his mate thought of him, Lowe’s reaction was to explain to Downey that their personalities were just different, “We’re wired similarly and also super differently — you would be impossible to pin down for that kind of structure at that point in your life.”

The “Oppenheimer” actor joked, “I was a hot mess,” before going on to recall how Lowe gets messages telling him to “call your agent” whenever he arrives in school “You’d walk by the bulletin board and there’d be like, ‘Rob, call your agent,’ and I’d go to the phone booth. Can you imagine what it was like for the rest of us at SanMo High to see that notification for you?”

Downey went on to share that if ever he had any message from school it would be, “‘You’re f—ing suspended.’” he also remembered how the star of “St. Elmo’s Fire” always came to school in style, “You had a champagne colored Mazda 626 that only fresh money could grab you the lease on, I remember you driving by in that car to get into the parking lot and was like, ‘Welp, that’s how the other half live.’”
