Robert Downey Jr. Set To Appear in ‘Avengers’ As Dr. Doom And Iron Man: Here’s How

Robert Downey Jr. has been making headlines since it was announced that Marvel has tapped the Oscar winner to play the role of Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom in upcoming ‘Avengers’ films.

According to some sources, this may not be all the surprises that Marvel has in store for fans when it comes to the one they call Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr’s Return As Iron Man Will Happen In A Different Context To His Upcoming Villainous Role In ‘Avengers’

‘Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige,’ Robert Downey Jr warned us when it comes to doubting the possibility of his iconic ‘Avengers’ character returning. In recent interviews, Robert has shared his hopes to return to Marvel.

However, the trick was that everytime he said that, fans always thought he meant returning as his iconic ‘Avengers’ character, who we saw give his life to save the world in ‘Avengers: Endgame.’

His character Tony Stark/Iron Man’s death was sort of explored in the second installment of Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man,‘ which saw the teenage superhero deal with the pressures of people expecting him to take over from Stark

Not for the first time, Marvel shocked us by revealing that Robert won’t be returning to the MCU as Iron Man, but as the mega-villainous character Victor von Doom, or, more commonly identified, Doctor Doom.

The villain is set to be introduced in the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movie, “Avengers: Doomsday,’ which is slated for a May 1, 2026 release. His appearance will trickle into the next installment in the billion-dollar franchise, May 7, 2027’s ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’

During the reveal at San Diego Comic-Con, the Russo Brothers, who Marvel reportedly paid a huge sum to bring back to direct the upcoming installments, stressed the need for Doctor Doom to be portrayed by Robert, who is “the greatest actor in the world.”

In addition to this grand return to the cinematic universe, Robert has been tapped to reprise his fan-favorite Iron Man role for a new ride at Disneyland’s Avengers Campus.

The ride, titled ‘Stark Flight Lab,’ will feature the actor in his iconic role, guiding visitors through a thrilling experience.

Chairperson of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Josh D’Amaro, shared the big news at the D23 Expo. According to him, the park is currently in “active development.”
