Rod Stewart Slams Ed Sheeran Says, His Music Won’t Stand The Test of Time

Trust Rod Stewart to say what’s exactly on his mind. Though, with all Stewart has told us, one is left to wonder how he knows Ed Sheeran’s music won’t stand the test of time. Wait, I’m I getting ahead of myself? Let me recap.

Rod Stewart – Says He Doesn’t Know Any of Ed Sheeran’s Songs

When it comes to naming English musicians who say whatever their mind tells them to, you can’t count the top three without including Rod Stewart.

In a new interview with The Times, the 79-year-old was asked to name the young artists he believes will still be big in the coming decades.

“You mean like ‘Maggie May’? Songs that will be played in 50 years?” Stewart asked, before continuing, “I like whatshisname. Oh f—ing great, Rod. Well done. He’s British, really talented and his songs will be around.”

The interviewer then suggested Ed Sheeran, because who wouldn’t suggest Ed Sheeran – he’s literally the first musician my mind calls to when I hear the words “British musician” (him and Adele anyway).

Surprisingly, Stewart denies he’s thinking of Ed Sheeran. Not only is he not thinking of Sheeran, he revealed that he actually isn’t any kind of fan of the “Eyes Closed” singer-songwriter. “No, not Ed, I don’t know any of his songs, old ginger bollocks,” he criticizes, before remembering that the “talented musician” he’s thinking of is George Ezra.

“Yes! I think he writes really tremendous songs,” he said of Ezra. “He’ll be around for quite a while.”

Even though Stewart believes Sheeran won’t stand the test of time, the “Bad Habits” hitmaker is souring as one of the biggest artists in the world right now.

His latest album, “Autumn Variations” extended Sheeran’s perfect albums chart records in the U.K. and Australia to seven, all consecutive (including two in 2023).

In the US, the record got him his sixth No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales Chart.

His recently wrapped “The Mathematics” tour actually broke attendance records in multiple continents, including East Rutherford’s MetLife Stadium and the Melbourne Cricket Ground (twice).

Rod Stewart and Ed Sheeran both performed at 2021’s Royal Variety Charity event.
