On Monday, Sept. 12, during a conversation on the Howard Stern Show, Rosie revealed how she turned both Woody Allen and the late Michael Jackson’s offer to work with them. Hang in there while I tell you the story.
Rosie O’Donnell — On How Rosie Turned Woody Allen Down
Before we get into details let me first explain why Rosie had to turn down Allen’s offer. Woody Allen was accused of sexually abusing his then 7 years daughter Dylan Farrow whom he adopted after marrying his now ex-wife Mia Farrow. Although investigations were done, Allen was never charged with child abuse but Dylan stood her grounds that she was sexually abused by Allen. It resorted to Mia divorcing Allen and fighting for custody of Dylan after the divorce.
Rosie while speaking with Howard Stern explained that she did a HBO documentary where she poured out her heart on how she felt about Woody Allen and how disgusting he was, a year after Rosie went back to her show, Rosie said she received a call requesting her to feature in Allen’s 1999 movie “Sweet and Lowdown.” Rosie said she declined the offer and, to make sure her refusal sank in, she suggested to the voice over the phone which was a woman’s voice to send Allen a copy of the HBO she did about him.
‘He wants you to be in [Sweet and Lowdown]. I said, ‘Please send him my HBO special.’ And the woman said, ‘Oh he’s already seen it.’ And I said, ‘Send it anyway with two words: F— and no.’ And I sent it to him.” Personally, If that’s not no enough, I don’t know what is. But did Allen listen? Nope, he persisted, thinking Rosie would come around with a little push but Rosie stood her ground and said ‘I’m not doing it. I’m not working for him or with him and being associated with him.'”
Rosie O’Donnell — On How Rossie Turned Michael Jackson Down
The late Michael Jackson was also accused of sexually abusing a child in 1993. Jackson, at the time, was accused of molesting a 13-year-old boy and he went to court for the case. Although Jackson kept denying the allegations even till his death in 2009, Rosie doesn’t give a damn, as far as she is concerned, Jackson is guilty of the allegations.
Anyways, according to Rosie, Jackson approached her through his bodyguards while she was at a wedding, she turned him down and told his guards that she believes Jackson was guilty of molesting the boy. “We were at a wedding and his guards came over and said, ‘He would like to speak with you.’ I said, ‘I’m not interested… I really don’t want to.’ And finally they said, ‘He’s going to come over here.’ I said, ‘Well, tell him not to because I’m a member of the Children’s Defense Fund and I believe every accusation against him.’ And he didn’t come over.”
Rosie also revealed that her epic turn down of Woody Allen brought about her friendship with Mia Farrow, sharing that Mia “heard that story and she called me to see if it was true and I said, ‘Oh yes, it’s true.’ And she started to cry and said, ‘Even my closest friends didn’t stick behind me during this and that here you did your HBO special and now you did this, I’m forever in your debt.'”
Rosie replied to Mia, “You’re not in my debt at all, but you are my friend and I admired you for years and what you’ve done with your life.'”
